We met our new friend Laura at a guesthouse in KK (Kota Kinabalu) the capital of Sabah state in Malaysian Borneo. Laura motivated us to see as much of Borneo as time would allow. Dear Sirs, I will be travelling around Borneo and I am interested in the river cruise 3 days/2nights. on 26.12.-28.12. We will be staying the night 25/26. in Seporna as we will be diving in Kapalai before, so I need to know details about pick up, do we need to get to sandakan etc. Please send me also program and costs. @ adults. I believe the location for the river cruise on the Kinabatangan is between 3-4 hours east from Kota Kinabalu. It was a full day bus ride though between Semporna and Kota Kinabalu (12 hours) but travels the same route. So, I think you should be able to take a bus from Semporna and get off where the River Cruise company picks you up. You definitely should arrange ahead of time for the river cruise. If you're pressed for time it would probably be faster to fly from Tawau to KK and then catch transportation to the Kinabatangan pick up spot. You'll need to get a hold of the company which can be arranged by tour agencies and guesthouses. Some of the details are also in Lonely Planet guides. Sorry, I am not too clear on the details. We weren't on any kind of time restriction at the time we traveled. Also, beware of guesthouses/travel companies; when we arranged our Kinabatangan cruise the guesthouse gave us the correct location to travel too but neglected to book us a room which was (luckily) just a small hiccup.
