Today we were going to make our way into Georgetown to have a look around and see a few sights, so after brekkie we all piled in the car and made our way there. It took about 35mins as the traffic was a bit busy.
We found a park near Fort Cornwallis where early Englishman, Francis Light and his crew landed in 1786 and built the original fort. We looked around for a while and took a few pictures and read about the history of the fort and what the fort stood for as its one of the only star designed forts around til this day. We walked up to the main corner were the gunpowder and the explosives were kept. The bunker the walls were about 300-400mm. There were a number of cannons that were there and one in particular was one the crew took from pirates in the late 1700s and used it for their own fort.
We finished up looking around and then made our way to Georgetown to have a look. It is amazing the old buildings in this town.
We then headed toward the Balik Pulau Nutmeg factory which was about 40mins away.
On the way it started to rain and didn’t stop for about 1 hour after we had gone to the Nutmeg factory. We were greeted by the owners of the factory and they were lovely. They handed us a nutmeg juice which was beautiful. They then taught us about the nutmeg fruit itself and the different parts of the nutmeg. Dani and Zav even learnt which fruit was male and which was female. We were then able to try all sorts of nutmeg and were amazed by the many different ways it was prepared. The main reason we were here was for the candied nutmeg that Mum and Dad had bought back from their last trip. It is a bit like eating crystallized ginger and is just delicious. We ONLY bought 4 kg of it!! There was also nutmeg pickled, ground and made into a tea, balm, rub and even nutmeg jam.
After our nutmeg overload we headed back to Miami Green for a dip before heading down to Batu Ferringhi beach for dinner at BBQ Nights Beach Corner. I had the best chicken of our trip. It was a chicken tikka (can’t remember the other part of the
name) cooked on skewers and served with rice. Stu had a lamb skewer, Dani had an egg sandwich and Zav had a chicken burger. Another delicious meal.
Next on the agenda was for the girls to have their hair braided. They have been wanting to get this done the whole trip and now was finally the time. It took about an hour each and turns out they had to be done at separate salons because the first one we went to was too busy. I stayed with Zav and had a neck and shoulder massage, as well as reflexology. (Not too bad, but not the best I’ve had) Stu and Frankie went to the other salon with Dani while her hair was being done.
By the time they were finished it was nearly 11pm so instead of looking around the markets we headed back to Miami Green.....
