After leaving the Perhentians we made it back to the mainland to get a conexion to Taman Negara but as there was only minibuses from there and where quite expensive (and all had left early morning anyway) we decided to spend one night in Kota Bharu so that the next morning we could get the famous Jungle Train. Whilst waiting for the bus, which as per the locals would be there in 1 hour, I continued my poi poi practice and Rob showed me a few more things (thanks Rob!). The bus at the end came 2 or 3 hours later, but we made it in time to find accommodation and go for dinner to the night market. Man it was so cheap and good!!!! After dinner early to bed as Jack, Jake and I had to get up at 5am to get to the station to get the train. Rob and Adam were going to Thailand, so the time came to say bye bye to 2 of our travelling partners. We were going to miss them. For the first few hours on the train we actually slept a little as it was pretty early and still dark outside, but then
even though it was quite misty we could see the amazing scenery in between, and then we slept again for a while again. When we arrived to Jerantut we took a miniban to Kuala Tahan, the base town for Taman Negara's National Park. On the bus we meet Nicky, a very nice english girl also from Birmingham like Jack. After checking in at Tembeling River View Chalets we went for dinner at one of the restaurant boats at the river, when suddently a big storm started and we thought the whole restaurant was going to brake. The following morning we woke up early to have breakfast and collect our permits for the park before going on a little trek.
The 4 of us made it to the canopy walkway, which is a series of suspended rope bridges constructed of wooden planks and ladders, elevated 45 m above ground. It was really good fun and the views were great, and not for people with altitude sickness (like Jack to whom we joked a little bit by moving the bridge just a little! Sorry Jack it was Jake!!). Then we also made it to Bukit Teresik, one of the peaks there where
we had fantastic views accross the forest. It was a hard trek in some parts with very steep parts. We came back very tired and after lunch we walked around this little town (with not much to see). That night we had another big storm and it felt like the little hut was going to brake to pieces!! It was a little bit scary I have to say.
