On the same day as my arrival to Malaysia, and after visiting the Bird Park in Kuala Lumpur, I eventually found the bus station in KL and took the short 2 1/2 hour bus trip to Melaka. Melaka is a small city with important maritime (sp?) history, including with China during the Ming Dynasty. It has an eclectic heritage and infrastructure. I stayed at a great hostal and met several interesting people from all over the world. I was the only American. In fact, I visited 4 museums, signing each guest book and looking for other USA. paging thru many previous pages I only found 1 other USA guest.
The weather was hot and humid, but what should you expect near the equator. It didn't compare to the 53C in Bucharest though.
