Hey everyone we have just finished touring Malaysia!!

Once on the ferry from ghost town Satun to Langkawi we met Edward from Peru and Kirstie & Stewart from Edinburugh. We had booked into the Rainbow Lodge in Pentai Cenang so they tagged along with us and stayed there too. We had a great few days here. On the first day the 5 of us just roamed around the town finding our bearings we had a yummy lunch and we booked a day trip for the next day. That night we all headed to bed early as we were all exhausted. We had to be up at 7am for our trip so we were pretty pissed off to realise we had no window on our room, it was just a mosquito net and the gang next door decided to have a sing song at 4am.....was not a fun time lol

The next morning we headed off early on our trip to Langkawi's Geological Park. We went on a speedboat all around the islands off the coast of Langkawi which was great fun. We stopped at a fish farm, a beautiful beach, a bat cave and we got to do eagle feeding and feed monkeys. It was a fantastic day and to top it off we headed to the beautiful English Tea Room cafe for tea and scones after 😊 On the way home a thunder and lightening storm came out of no where and it was terrifying!! The thunder was so loud and their was fork lightening landing everywhere. On the way back to our hostel we heard a huge bang and there was a huge flash and we could here all the locals screaming. The lightening had hit an electricity pole right beside Ian and it was sparking. Ian is not a fan of thunder and lightning at the best of times so we literally ran back to the hostel and cuddled up listening to the crazy rain and thunder as the power came on and off all night.

The next morning we rented scooters with Kirstie and Stewart and we headed off to explore the island. We headed up to do the cable car which has spectacular views of the whole island. Unfortunately Laura did not enjoy this at all. Not a fan of heights plus the last time we got on a cable car we got stuck when it stopped for quite some time so she got very anxious and upset and was very glad to be back on the ground when we got back down lol!! We also headed to a waterfall which we could see from the cable car and we saw some monkeys and giant lizards in the wild. That night Kirsty, Stewart and Edward headed off to Kuala Lumpar so we had an early night and stupidly decided to stay another night but in the town close to the ferry port so we could leave the following day. The room we stayed in was a matchbox and there was NOTHING to do there! So we asked the hotel close by if we could use their pool. Unfortunately we swanned in all n our swim gear and Laura was embarrassed in her bikini because the other women there were muslim and were covered from head to toe!! The only nice thing we found here was a cafe called Secret Recipe which did amazing pies 😊

The following day we took a ferry to Kuala Perlis and then took a bus to Penang. The buses in Malaysia are amazing! They are very spacious and you get a a lazy boy chair 😊 Very comfortable!! We arrived in Penang with no hostel booked, so we took a taxi to Love Lane were the majority of the hostels can be found. We found a lovely spot called Red inn, it was a fantastic hostel, clean, great facilities and a lovely atmosphere. We dropped the bags and headed out for dinner and found the coolest little spot with really cheap food and the cheesiest music with writing all over the walls. The owner was lovely and the food was so good, it was called Mikes Place. That night we came across an ice cream parlour called Love Locks, they only serve coconut ice cream with a variety of different toppings which were all fab our fav was the popping jellies!! We also bought a lock and designed it and locked it to the chain on the wall we threw away the key and now our love is locked forever!! Not sure how Ian felt about this but he played along haha

The next day we went walking around exploring the city and did some shopping, Laura let a lady shape her eyebrows with a blade.....very random! we also found a cinema and booked tickets for that night to see James Bond which was brill!! The next day we took a bus to the Funicular Railway which was really good fun and thankfully Laura enjoyed this much more than the cable car in Lankawi, we headed back to love lane and ian got hs head shaved and we found this cool Chinese restaurant called Teksen that looked like someones kitchen but it was packed full of locals so we figured it had to be good and it was AMAZING!! We went back to Mikes Place for dessert they did lovely homemade brownies and ice-cream and we bumped into Josh and Ewan who we met in Vietnam. We had a drink and catch up with them and headed for bed as we had an early bus to catch to Kuala Lumpar.

After a long enough bus journey we arrived in Kuala Lumpar, the driver dumped us at the metro station and we needed to find china town where our hostel was. We asked a guy for directions and he brought us all the way there he took us to get our tickets, brought us onto the train and told us when to get off and pointed us in the right direction it was so nice of him. Our hostel here was called The Travel Hub and it was great, it was in a brill location and had lovely chill out areas. We only had 3 days here so we had to use them wisely as there was SO much to see and do. On our first day we went to the Petronas Towers which are spectacular to see, we walked around the gardens and explored the shopping mall. Then we took the monorail to the KL tower and took a trip to the top. We got some fantastic views of KL and of the Petronas Towers. We then headed up to visit some more shopping malls and we bought a new camera which we LOVE it has the best zoom and takes great pics!!. We have really missed having a camera a phone is just not good enough to capture everything we are seeing. The day after we were sooo tired so we stayed in bed very late and then we strolled around the markets and headed to the bus station to get tickets to Singapore the next day which took longer than expected. That night Ian decided to try some local food which was not nice, it's so hard to order in the restaurants where the locals eat beacuse none of the staff speak very good english and the menu is never in english so we always order the wrong thing and its just never what you expect so we ended up in nandos haha. We headed back to the Petronas towers that night to see them lit up and to see the water fountain show in the gardens which was great and all with a starbucks hot chocolate 😊

We have both really enjoyed Malaysia even though we didn't get to go to the pernethian islands. The people are so nice most speak very good English and there is such a mix of different foods. We would reccomend Malaysia to everyone.

Next stop, Singapore

Lots of love Laura and Ian
