Morning after tubing from my Appartment Since the day tubing (28th April to 1st May)
Hey everyone. Here's another entry to keep you up to date. The blog entries dates will be a bit random & out of Sync so my apologies...I'm sure it wont cause too much confusion for most of you. Also i have some good news...I have been informed we may also have a few new readers, so a big hello and welcome...you know who you are :-) ......Its always good to have some new readers.
BAck to my adventure.... I woke the morning after the tubing adventure to the obvious & expected bad head and hangover. However, in my weary state & my instant confusion I discovered it was much harder to lift my pounding heavy head from my pillow than expected. I soon realized I had more to contend with than the expected after affects of several bottles beer loas and and few vodka red bulls.
My first job was to go and retrieve my key from the Dutch Kiwi girl (She had a funny name... and guess what? Surprise Surprsie i cant remember it lol) who was looking after it in her waterproof bag whilst we were playing

Mekong river from Luang prabang about on and in the river. I dragged myself out of bed and tottered down town to where i thought she and the American guy (Eric) may be having breakfast. She was there, and she also was feeling hungover and suffering with the affects of a cold and cough. Regarding my key, apparently she realised last night when she got back to her room that she hadn't given it to me! Well then i ask myself, didn't she think about bringing it back to the bar so when i did get home that night i wouldn't have to get the security man to wake the manager up so he could let me in with his key? Anyway i got the key off her. Whilst we were at this restaurant some of the other guys we did the tubing with arrived, so we all spent the next 15 minutes piecing together the latter stages of the night. The last thing i remember was floating down the river on my own in the pitch black at heaven knows what time. Apparently I floated off on my own a little bit ahead, when everyone decided to call it a day and get out
Luang Prabang 02
Temple in luang Prabang of the water somebody luckily said where's Karl??? I was found a little further down river happily floating along in my own little happy world - good job they came for me cos i probably would have woke up in the middle of the Mekong River in Cambodia lol.
Anyway it wasn't long before i could hear my bed calling out my name and I was really feeling groggy. My throat was sore, had a chesty cough and i felt really weak and lethargic, so off I trotted back to bed with a few paracetamol down me.
Later that day i just about managed to get up. My main incentive wasn't actually food on this occasion, but I had to go and book a ticket for tomorrow to get to Luang Prabang, however i did take this opportunity to sample some more fine Loas cuisine. To be honest I wasn't in the frame of mind in physical condition to appreciate it but I hoped some food would make me feel better.......... but it didn't! Regarding recuperation it seamed I was definitely going in the wrong direction. I hoped i would bump into the rest of the guys so

Loas kids playing at river and jumping from bridge i could say goodbye to them as I was leaving very early next day, I didn't see them (there all probably in bed too). That night i developed an horrific fever and high temperature and I had little or no sleep.
The next day i got picked up early so I was unable to go and say goodbye to the American guy (eric) the dutch / kiwi girl and the other guys from the tubing day. I bet they think i'm a right ignorant sod but what could I do! Anyway I headed off on the long 8 hour journey to luang Prabang. Man, I felt like shit, and that's been generous. Between me lying across all 4 seats of a minibus, trying to sleep, sweat dripping off me, shivering & shaking and lifting my head up to the window ever now and again, the journey through the mountains looked amazing, not just the beautiful scenery but going through the mountain villages, small towns and seeing the local kids and people doing there everyday things. I couldn't muster the energy to even take any pictures. Even when we stopped off for lunch and i really needed the toilet, i

Surrounding country side of Luang Prabang didn't move, couldn't move off my make shift bed. I remember stating to think and worry about if i'd got something serious like Malaria, denger fever or some other tropical illness or serious jungle fever. Maybe i'd caught something from the river when tubing or had my foot got infected from the cut. Whatever i had i hoped it wasn't serious cos i'd read in the lonely planet that the hospital in Loas were not the best & not to be trusted and if anything serious should happen you are generally airlifted to Thailand - i could see it now, me been air lifted. With my luck I guessed and feared it was a real possibility!
Soon as I arrived in Luang Prabang I had a tuk tuk take me to a recommended guest house that had all the necessary comforts I would be needing whilst recovering in bed. Like the previous places i'd stayed at in Loas I had a nice big comfy bed, Air Con, nice bathroom - this one even had a bath, cable TV.
Apart from nipping out for drinks, bit of food or to check my mails (for all these activities would cause
me to literally pour with sweat) for the next 3 days I generally spent my time in bed, doped up on paracetamol, sweating, shivering and generally feeling really sorry for myself either watching TV or trying to sleep. Hence trying to sleep! When i think i did manage some sleep i'd soon awake after having the craziest of dreams and wake totally saturated in sweat.
Unfortunately during my days and nights of suffering i had to suffer more pain and anguish. Man utd qualified for the final of the champions League and Liverpool did not. Glad i'm not at home having to put up with all the banter, especially from my Dad. Liverpool were unlucky though! Also watched a few classic films whilst in bed....like the karate kid lol...Man what a shit film!
It was Thursday 1st May, where i took the 1st step to recovery and felt a little (emphasize little) better. I felt really annoyed and frustrated that i'd been in Luang Prabang for nearly 3 days and i hadn't done anything apart from see the walls of my room and watch TV, so i made the decision that i'd do a elephant trecking tour and waterfall trip the next day - fingers crossed i'd feel up for it. After i had booked it and also booked my boat trip to the border for Saturday I went for some lunch at a lovely coffee / bakery shop. From there, back to my Haven (bed) for more recovery and TV.
