Bit tired this morning thanks to some lovely people in the next room, I don't understand if there's a curfew of 11.30 that people can come banging in at 3am and then continue to shout to each other along the corridor, beats me! A sligh bang on their door as I head out for my very early run makes me feel slightly more better ; ).
Run up the steps today, wow thought I was going to throw up, but you have to compose yourself when the japenese tourists are saving and clapping you on!!! Yes really!
We head for breakfast at the book and tea place this morning, I had spotted museli on the menu and it was screaming my name... Oh and they had peppermint tea, Heaven!
Setting out today to look about more into possible next stops I have read about Num kiaw which sounds lovely and were hoping if we head there we can then get a home stay.
we have also heard about a book company called big brother mouse that goes on village visits to give out books to the children that in want to try and find out about more
about.
By midday I have found the book company, really excited I ask to go on the next village visit only to be told I have to donate a minimum of $250!! I almost fell over there and then! That's one thing I can't understand about these organisations, you get people from all over the world wanting to help and give up their time for freeeee and they go and wack a great big price tag on it??! The lady I mentioned from Australia yesterday she was paying over $1000 to do weeks volunteer work!!! Is it me or is that mad! I want nothing than to go and help out in a local school help the kids learn English but hey I'm on a budget guys!!! Anyway rant over, thank you for listening: )
So back to the rest of the day, we decide we need to get out of the city and hire a mountain bikes to go to a local waterfall I've read about Tad Thong waterfall and trail. Blimey I'm glad I hired a bike with gears this time, those mountain roads I mentioned we came in on the bus, well they are a
lot harder on a bike. When I get there its 20,000 kip entry and then a nice hike around the paved trail in the forest to see the waterfall, it was really beautiful and soo quiet, think it helped going abit later in the day. Now just sat in the sun having a nice cold BeerLao before the lovely ride back.
A quick detour to the bus station and then back to meet Julia and Jonas for a quick drink. The previous night they met a local family that they had drinks with and theyve arranged to meet them again tonight, yer think it will nice to talk to some locals and try and use our new Laos phrase book.....
They had warned me that the family like their whisky..... Not to that extent, well every few minutes one of the men would hand you a glass of their Lao lao whiskey, looks like vodka, smells strong! There was Lol the wife, Bee and Craw the two men and also Sasha, another guy from Berlin, what a laugh, even not being able understand each other very much we still had a ball, they had there two pups running
around as well and trying to eat my bag, so adorable.
It was really nice (apart from the whiskey) they had us try some of their foods, in Laos its seen as rude if you refuse so why not, not sure what it was but there was a full chilli in there. Found out that the Laos alphabet is the same a thai and their numbers are the same apparently alot of Laos people also speak thai, least i could see if i remembered anything.
A few hours gone and all this whiskey was taking its toll, so we said our good byes and headed to the night market for a serious food session..... Early start the next day as we drunkenly arranged to get up and try and watch the monks do their early morning food collection. (Monks can only eat once a day and they can't pay for food so they walk the streets and locals come out and give them food, in exchange they kneel down in front of them and offer up a prair).
