We decided it was time to leave pai and head for the border of laos.... after waking in the morning and realising the bamboo bridges had collapsed in the night (due to rain that night) and being evacuated from our hut, we purchased our bus tickets to chiang kong. We spent the day chilling in a bar until it was time to leave that night. The bus journey took about 6 hrs, getting us there at about 2am and we went straight to bed. After waking the next day we enjoyed breakfast overlooking the mighty mekong river and then went to cross the border. The border crossing was quick and simple... after filling in the required documents we boarded a slowboat which was to take 2 days to get us to our destination (luang prabang), with an overnight stop in a small and secluded village (pak beng). The boat trip was amazing... it consisted of drinking, playing cards, watching wild elephants bathe in the river and meeting lots of new friends (the luang prabang gang). Arriving in luang prabang we quickly found a hotel then all went out to eat together at the local street market. We stayed here for a
few days, spending our time visiting waterfalls, swimming in lagoons and enjoying traditional laos massages.... also watching sunsets from hilltop temples and dancing the night away in local bars and clubs.
After 3 days spent here we all purchased bus tickets to party central, vang vieng, home of tubing.
