Luang Prabang is a very beautiful city surrounded by green mountains and clay coloured waters. The whole city was listed as a world heritage site since 1995 by UNESCO. Consequently it gets a lot of tourists and you can see by the amount of guesthouses being built that those numbers will only increase over the years to come.
Luang Prabang was our introduction to Laos and Lao People and it didn’t disappoint. Everyone’s pretty laid back, just going about their own business without paying too much attention to what that funny looking foreigners doing stood outside looking up and down the street for the past ten minutes trying to figure out where he is!! We also got minimal hassle from people trying to sell things. No one tried to get you on their tour or in their guesthouse. The only time was with some of the kids that wonder up and down the main street, trying to sell bracelets. Each day they ask you and each day their stories become a little more designed to pull on your heartstrings. A little to professionally delivered to believe it was all quite that bad
The city is small so we was

Kouang Si Waterfallsable to walk around pretty much everywhere within 3-4hours, but the heat was well in the 30s so you drink 3-4bottles of water a day without realizing. The place has one really cool cafe/bookshop/bar where we had breakfast an dinners must evenings, my obsession with fruit shakes starated in this place...orange,pineapple,banana shakes for about 1dollar
On Sunday a group of us headed to Kouang Si waterfall, a stunning multi-level fall were you can swim in the clear-blue pools. On the walk to the falls we passed a Black Bear sanctuary and a caged tiger that had been rescued. The bears were cool, very playful but the tiger paced in his cage and looked extremely agitated. Very cool to see a grown tiger so close up, but sad to see him distressed. Once we reached the falls, we climbed up the right hand side which turned out not to really be a path but just an uphill scramble. Quite hard work but good fun. At the top we crossed the water and had an easy climb down the other side. A well earned swim in the
pools - pics never do justice but the water was soo clear an blue. The Laos Adventure - Laung Prabang

Most nights we went to a bar called Hive, it was the most popular, then again they only had about three so I reckon the title of "most popular" doesnt carry much weight over here - we met up most nights with Lee, Cathy an Edwina that we met at the border, and then the 9 of us already travelling together so the group keeps getting bigger an bigger - but I have to say I couldnt be luckier with a cool group of people - I think most people that do this travelling thing are liked-minded so everyone gets on - touch wood 😉
Laung Prabang an Laos in general has a curfew and all the bars have to be closed at 11.30pm as people are supposed to be at their official residence by midnight. However, for some reason they have a bowling alley which stays open much much later for all the tipsy folk to go to. Bare foot
bowling is allowed and anything goes. I was asked to take a urine sample as I kicked everyones arse an won by over 30pins so I was suspected of using performance inhancing drugs - as you know I frown upon this kind of behaviour 😉 Was a hilarious nights laugh had by all
We spent 3.5 days in Laung Prabang, a place I personally loved cause the people are so layedback they should really fall over, and Beer Lao is now my favourite beer in the world 😉
We booked a VIP Bus (VIP means Airconditoned) from Laung Prabang to Vang Vieng, right in the center of Laos. The journey was one of the most terrifying bus journeys Ive ever taken. The road has a corner every 5seconds, which has a drop of about 400feet on one side, we all had an image of the end of Italian Job movie - but after 5hours we eventually arrived in Vang Vieng an booked into our accomodation which is where Im still at right now - so ill be doing up the Vang Vieng blog when I get to Vietnam next week.
Im having a unbelievable time so far,
I still cant beleive its only been 2 weeks cause I feel like ive done soo much so far - the place im in now has loads of bars that have beds, couches infront of loads of tvs that show friends, simpsons an family guy. You just kick back, have some food, fruit shakes or beer an do nothing for hours - its bliss - tough life i know
Ive uploaded about 30-40 pics over the last two days so hope you enjoy - there is two pages of photos on each blog
Hope everyone is safe an well - keep the comments coming - dek
