Nagoya City Facts - With over two million inhabitants, Nagoya is Japan's fourth most populated city. It is the capital of Aichi Prefecture and the principal city of the Nobi plain, one of Honshu's three large plains and industrial centers.

Nagoya developed as the castle town of the Owari, one of the three branches of the ruling Tokugawa family during the Edo Period (1603 - 1867) . Much of the city, including most of its historic buildings, were destroyed in the air raids of 1945.

Following the development of the castle town, Nagoya grew into a metropolis as commerce and industry prospered and culture flourished. The culture and tradition of manufacturing blossomed during the Meiji period, and has continued to evolve into the present. Currently the region is home to leading Japanese manufacturing industries in fields such as automobiles, with expanding developments overseas

After 9 days exploring the wonders of Tokyo City and staying in Sakura Hostel we decided we needed to see more of Japan so the deadly duo of Aaron an myself wit the less deadly but hilarious Petteri (Finland) & who said germans arent funny but bloody hell they are efficient David (Germany) that we

metup with in the hostel headed off to explore the southern half of Japan.

We left our days of backpackings well behind us when we caught a Shinkansen (Bullet Train) for about 35Euro from Tokyo to Nagoya City..I have to admit bullet is a very good name cause everything is like a blur when you look out the window but you dont feel like you are going that fast which is kinda disappointing but hey I was on a bullet train in Japan.!! Thats another one marked off the things to do before I die list..actually thats reminds me I must do a list before I die aswell Mmmm

We arrived at our hostel late into the evening an we didnt have a notion what to expect cause I booked a "Japanese Style Family Room" for a laugh..!! Endedup been the coolest accomodation I have ever stayed in. The pictures will give you a better idea but its a traditional japanese room where everyone sleeps on the floor on Tatami Mats with bead pillows and it was 3 of the best days sleep I had since I left Ireland.

The city was well worth the visit cause it was like a smaller version of Tokyo which meant you can travel around much easier an quicker so considering we had 3 days it was perfect...

The only problem was that the hostel had a 11.30pm curfew so that kinda changed our intial plans of seeing the nightlife of every city we visited in Japan...so most days started very early with alot of sightseeing an picture taking an getting back to hostel for 7.30pm...this was a very strick funny daily schedule...reason being cause the "baths" closed at 8pm...yes the baths ahhh still laugh when I think of them...they are errr showers kinda baths kinda mixture...the shower is about 3ft off the ground which means you sit on the floor an wash yourself while ur back is to everyone else within the same room..good olde Japanese invent everything but bloody doors an privacy haha

Once the cleansing was finished we would goto the local supermarket for food an beverages an be back inside the hostel by 11.30pm...so armed with a deck of cards that would be the evening sorted till the wee hours.

Was a great 3 days getting to know the two guys that would be
