Kurashiki

After checking into the hotel (more western style hence bigger rooms etc.) most of us opted for the cycle tour. Kay, Nicole & Izi decided to explore the town.

We caught the train to BizenIchinomiya. The cycle rental shop was near the station. Once we'd all got the correct bike we were off. We stopped for lunch in a cafe, where I think I had red bean ice cream.

The 15km ride was mostly flat through the countryside, along lush green rice fields. The temperature was 94. Tom stopped at various locations so we could see the Temple, shrine and burial mould. We also stopped off at a farm and saw horses and ponies. We rode through a town where we gave the bikes back and all had an ice cold soft drink from the station vending machine to cool off as we were all sweating profusely.

On the train back to the hotel we all agreed it was a very pleasant afternoon. Gemma and I went to the 100Yen shop; she was still shopping when I decided to go back to the hotel

For dinner we walked through the indoor market place to a little cafe. On the way we stopped off at a Pachinko place. Tom explained the rules. I found it far too noisy and made for the exit with a couple of the others.

After dinner on the way back to the hotel we went to the local shop and got some beer and plum wine and sat in reception. Someone also bought curry popcorn.

We weren't leaving until 11:30am, so Kay and I had a walk around the canal, and then went to the 100 Yen shop which opened at 11am. So we sat people watching when Kimberley strolled up also waiting for the shop to open. Kay bought some kitchen utensils, I bought some locks.

Next stop Kyoto
