Lunch
This is a bento, or boxed lunch, I made for myself. It was super fun to eat :) Sorry guys, I know it's been a little while since I had an update but I had some really nice pictures to post so I thought I'd do one today 😊
Today I went with some of the other ALTs in the area over to Kuwana for their flower festival. Its held at this big botanical garden near Nagashima Spaland so it was super easy to get to.
The flowers themselves were amazing! I can only imagine what they are going to look like in the Spring. Despite it being a lot colder today than it has been so far this Fall, there were still quite a few flowers in full bloom out in the gardens. You would not believe how big these things are! I had to take a picture of one next to me just to prove it!
Anyway, there was a massive field of flowers as well as an indoor botanical garden filled with ponds, hanging plants and begonias. It was really breath-taking. Apparently a lot of people get married or proposed to there and it's little wonder why. I even had a few girl moments myself hahaha
They are doing a light show
Pod Things
These look really futuristic and weird. Apparently they collect water and turn it into electicity and if a tsunami is coming they rise up to form a wall to block the water. Japan you are so cool. there as well until March. We only got to see it in the early stages tonight since it doesn't technically open for another week. Basically, once it gets dark all the fields light up with Christmas lights. It's really breath-taking. They also have two light tunnels you can walk through - one with white lights and one with purple. Only the purple one was on tonight but it was still super cool to twirl around in (even though it was technically closed... whoops gaijin smash!)
As pretty as the flowers were, after an hour it sort of became an 'oh...just another flower' scenario...which meant it was time to hit the free onsen foot bath! Yay! I think that was my favourite part of the day. We got to peel off our socks and shoes and stick our feet in some really nice and hot onsen water. It warmed everyone right up 😊 Hot chocolate's got nothing on that!
Tonight my apartment is f'ing cold. They don't believe in central heating in Japan, or insulation, so whatever temperature it is outside is what it is inside. I also happened to check my heater today and no surprise, it is
broken. Fan-fucking-tastic. No TV. No mattress to sleep on. No HEATER. Christ almighty. Am I living in some third world country or Japan? /end rant
Anyway so this cold pretty much happened overnight, which is the weirdest part. The other day it was 25. I wore short sleeves to school! Then we had one little rain shower with a rainbow and suddenly Fall is here with a vengeance? Lame. The leaves haven't even begun to turn yet! Oh well, at least it isn't as cold as Canada is right now... but still guys don't be envious of my warm weather. When it is freezing cold outside for you guys, just remember that come December you will be toasty warm inside your homes with central heating and insulation and I will be shivering in my apartment that will be just as cold as outside. Yay!
I also finally got internet last week, Thank God! It only took three months.... Anyway, it feels really good to be able to connect with people again. Having no TV and no internet was pretty f'ing bad but at least I have one of the two now. 😊
Really looking forward to coming
home for Christmas - already got my flight booked. December 19th! Hope to see you all when I get home 😊
XO
