Me and Lani
Me and Lani at our favorite place So I now have a new favorite place in Japan...
It's this place called Sweets Paradise in Kyoto. It's an all-you-can eat dessert restaurant, and it's basically heaven on earth! Me, Leilani, and Rob went there on Friday, and it was absolutely AMAZING! Me and Leilani had been looking forward to this for so long, and we both love sweets so much that we actually had to prepare for it...
We weren't allowed to eat anything sweet the whole day, just salty foods because we wanted to be craving sweet stuff when we got there. And we couldn't eat a lot for lunch either because we needed to be hungry. So this was a pretty big event!
I actually think we have a serious problem though! For some reason we can't control our cravings for sweet stuff! Everytime we go somewhere we end up getting dessert or stopping in a bakery. And when we go grocery shopping we buy a bunch of snacks, like ice cream and chocolate...and our latest obsession, marshmallows! It's so bad that we are starting to get a reputation around the seminar house. The other night we had just gotten back from the store
The Building
We found it...the building where Sweets Paradise is! and had bought a bunch of snacks. I had some ice cream, these little chocolates that looked like hamburgers, chocolate chip cookies, cookie biscuits, and a bag of marshmallows. Leilani also had most of the same stuff. So we were sitting in the dining room trying them all and Eugene comes by and is shocked by how much junk we have! So he gave us the name "Candy Cats" (there's some saying for it in German), which we thought was very fitting. And other people would walk by and be amazed by the amount of junk food we had! I guess that's not a good thing...
So my point is that Sweets Paradise was the perfect place for people like me and Leilani! We left for Kyoto after classes at around 4 becuse we wanted to get there early. We had heard that there is usually a long waiting line to get in. Unfortunately we didn't know exactly where the place was. We knew it was on the 6th floor of some building on the main street, but that was all! So we had to walk around for a little while before we actually found it. Oh and the
Sixth Floor
There's Sweet's Paradise on the sixth floor elevator in the building was so cool! There was a camera in the elevator and on the first floor there was a TV screen right beside the elevator door that showed you what was going on in the elevator. It was a lot of fun to watch the people in the elevator! So then we went up to the 6th floor where Sweets Paradise was located and put our name on the waiting list...only 30 minutes. Then me and Leilani left Rob to wait while we went across the street to our favorite store in Kyoto, C.P.A.! We looked around one floor of the store before we had to go back and were pretty dispappointed that there weren't any spring sales yet.
We made it back to Sweets Paradise and still had to wait about 10 extra minutes before we got a table, but it was so worth the wait! When you first enter you put your money into a machine and buy your ticket. On your ticket is says the time you have to eat, since you are only given 90 minutes. And we planned to make the best of those 90 minutes! We put our stuff down
Elevator TV
You can watch the people in the elevator while waiting! at our table and then went to the dessert bar. But first we decided to get some actual food. They had different kinds of pasta and sandwiches, pizza, even rice and curry, and also soup. So we got some food just as an appetizer! After we had eaten that we went back for the main course...the DESSERTS! There were so many different cakes there, and they were all so pretty and looked so good. It's impossible to describe how wonderful a sight it was! They even had a chocolate fountain! And there were wafers and fruit beside it for the fondue. So we started going through the line, taking a piece of every single cake there. I hadn't even made it through the whole line before my plate was full. So we had to go back and eat all of that before we came back up and proceeded where we had to leave off before. We would also go back to get real food in between because everything was so sweet that we needed something to balance it out.
In the end we ended up getting about 4 or 5 plates each! I know that sounds like a lot,
Elevator
The coolest elevator I've ever been in... but it's not as bad as it seems because we didn't eat everything on our plate. It just wasn't possible! So we would take a bite of each different cake but I hardly ever ate the entire piece. I just felt bad because we wasted so much. We probably had a whole cake left over. But there was just so much to try and everything looked so good...Well, except for the macha cake (green tea). I should have know it would be gross because everything macha-flavored that I've tried so far has been horrible (except for the Kit-Kats). But this macha cake was really disgusting and I wish I hadn't tried it...
So after about an hour of eating we were starting to feel really full! We all just kind of sat there and didn't say anything, trying to figure out how we could eat so much dessert! Just the thought of cake made me sick, and I couldn't even look at the plates on the table.
But here's the best part about our trip to Sweets Paradise (and why we really are candy cats!)...As if 90 minutes of all you can eat desserts wasn't good enough, me
Sweets Paradise
We made it to Sweets Paradise! and Lani each brought tupperware in our bags to take some back home with us! It was the funniest thing ever. We had the containers in our purses, and we would pretend like we were talking and one person would be watching for waiters and the people around us. Then we'd just slip the cake into our container! We were pretty good at it, no one noticed. The only problem was that every time we got a piece in the container we'd start laughing a lot. The whole sitution was so funny, we couldn't help it! So if anything that would have given us away...guess we're not made for stealing! It was a lot of fun though, plus we got lunch and dessert for the next day.
Sweets Paradise was such a wonderful place. I wish there more places like it! The restaurant was so pretty and girly, which is probably why mostly girls were there. And we are definitely planning to go there one more time before we leave. But not until after Okinawa. Right now we are on a strict diet and exercising for the whole month of April, but we'll see how that goes 😉
