This one is a little late but 2 Saturdays ago we decided to go on another meetup with "The Tokyo Spontaneous Hangout" group. This meetup was to go to the Cup of Noodles Museum in the beautiful city of Yokohama. We have now been several times to Yokohama and really love it. For us "old" folks a little more chill than the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. We met up with the group at the train station not far from the museum and the museum was right in the middle of the attractions of Yokohama that we still want to go back and visit. First on the agenda is to ride the huge Ferris wheel ride they have in the middle of the city so awesome!
When we first entered the museum we did the tour ourselves with the group which who would of thought that ramen noodles would be so interesting! We watched a short film about the creation of the instant ramen noodles which was great because they had headphones in English so that we could actually understand what was being said. We toured a room with hundreds of different types of instant ramen noodles from around the
world. The rest of the tour was around the history of how it was created, the creator himself, an imitation home of where instant ramen was created, and fun hands on activities for kids that of course adults like to join.
Then we went off to the part of the meetup where we got to make our own Cup Of Noodle! They first give you a cup of noodle that you sit around a table with others that have markers in the middle of the table. You design your own cup so I was thinking of warm weather so decided on a sun and beach while Anthony being silly as usual made his with a crazy green person on it. After you design your cup you stand on a line where it takes you through the whole process of making the cup of noodle and how it gets sealed. The whole process takes about 30-40 minutes depending on how colorful you want to get with your cup and how long the line is. After that is done you then put your Cup Of Noodle in a plastic blowup bag that you wear as a souvenir bag. It's really cute
to see everyone on the train with these bags around their shoulders with their own Cup of Noodle creation.
After our masterpiece Cup Of Noodle we then went to go eat at the food court at the museum. This was no ordinary food court though it had to be the most cutest awesome food court I have ever seen! All the dishes were of course noodles and each vendor represented a different country and how specialty dish of noodles. They had representation from of course Japan, Thailand (ate that one and goodness once again learned that HOT is not the same as the states when it comes to Thai food!), China, Italy, Vietnam, etc. For each vendor you purchase your meal ticket and take up the ticket to the counter for that country. Very good food for a food court!
This one is definitely going to be a trip to take when visitors come to Japan! Was lots of fun and there is so much other things to do around the museum. The museum also had a fantastic view of the bay in Yokohoma. So for anyone that is coming soon start thinking of your Cup Of Noodle
design!
