Meg's furry friend at the park
Poor little thing looked a little bit sick. Meg asked it if it was feeling okay but it didnt speak English! 'I've got your picture.. I've got your picture!'
I really think so! This place really is awesome!!! We arrived here four days ago but I will write this blog to cover most of what we have done up until this point because we are falling behind and you need photos!!
Well, for starters, we are at Meg and Cam's place. We began our holiday here by vegging out for a whole day (Which was soooo wonderful I can tell you - we needed to chill out!!) and visited the park and a few really funky shops around Fuchinobe, which is about a five minute walk and a few blocks away from Yabe, where Meg and Cameron live..
We started at the local park which is gorgeous.. There were ornamental trees all around the place and well-manicured flowers and plants.. there was a large pond in the middle of the park that was full of turtles!! It was really exciting to see - they were all very cute and a little bit bigger than idgie.. They were sunning themselves all over these planked little cubby houses that stand in the middle of the pond.. They also live with massive
The park
Very cute local park. koi carp - most of them at least three feet long!! It was very cool - needless to say, my garden will look like that one day..
After that, we went to a geek store, (as Cameron so affectionately calls his second home) - there were two massive floors of the coolest stuff there, ranging from DVDs and Video games to millions of figurines, toys, character cards, lollies, merchandise for hundreds of the coolest Japanese cartoons and well-known anime..
We went upstairs, where there was a kind of vintage clothing / second hand store and after searching for ten minutes I fell in love.. With an acid green long coat. Just wait Felicity - you will love it!! 😊
Anyhoo, so we did a little bit of shopping and then returned to the flat to chill. It was lovely.
Now about yesterday!!!
Yesterday we went to Yokohama, about forty minutes away from Meg and Camerons house. We went to China Town, which was awesome and very festive, and we walked along the Bay, looking out at the massive ships and boats that were moored there.
We walked around Yokohama for a good while -
The Geek Shop
Omigod! I shrunk.
Can I Write the themetune, sing the themetune?? we managed to get in some special time with some of the local stray cats by the seaside.. Meg is particularly fond of the kitties - there are hundreds of stray and feral cats around Japan - Meg would like to adopt several hundred of them so if anybody has a pool net, a bulk pack of bandaids and a giant bottle of antiseptic lotion - please send them express post so that we can help her!! 😊
Anyhoo - so in the afternoon we decided to head to the local funpark, which has several rollercoasters and a giant ferris wheel.. It was just about sunset and it had been a gorgeous day, so we jumped on a rollercoaster, named the 'Diving Coaster VANISH!' (Loving this Janglish!!) and afterwards went for a turn on the ferris wheel. We took some gorgeous photos and had a lot of fun there, before deciding that we absolutely had to go over to the Machida district, and try out Meg and Cam's faourite restaurant, the 'Chopstick Cafe'
We had a great dinner there and drank some good beer and wine too. One of the chefs there - Mabo - knows Cameron and
Chinatown
Susan couldn't figure out if the signs were written in Chinese or Japanese. Meg by name - he called out to them over the noise of the restaurant and welcomed them profusely - he was loverly!!
After dinner we did the best thing EVER! We went to Karaoke!!!
It was so cool.. I popped my karaoke cherry - I am no longer a virgin! We got a private room, just for the four of us - we sang and sang for two hours straight and drank lots more alcohol.
The place had heaps of the best songs from home - it was really impressive actually - there was certainly no lack of stuff to sing - Susan did Lisa Loeb Stay extremely well, and Meg did an excellent rendition of I will survive.. very very cool and the most fun ever!! My voice really hurts today 😞
We dropped in at Maccas for a quick drunken session of burgers (Japanese Maccas is really really good BTW) and then went home in a drunken state. I went to the toilet about nine times during the night which was also nice.
It was a fantastic day out - we all had a great time, and once again - Sus and
You're just to good to be true
Can't stop putting coins into you. I woke up at about 12.30 this afternoon.
Check out the photos!!!
Over and Out.
PS: There are vending machines everywhere here - EVERYWHERE!! Apparently there is one vending machine for every twenty five people. You couldn't move thirty steps without seeing one - they sell drinks, cigarettes, beer, wine - anything you want! Susan likes them great deal and keeps stopping and looking up, in awe.
Oh, and PPS: Cigarettes are about 280 Yen a pack. That's about $3.00 Australian. Nice eh?
