Niseko- Annupuri Hey guys!
Since I've now decided that I'm going to be overseas and away from you all for a while longer yet, I decided to start a blog so you can all keep up with where I'm at and what I'm doing. And so that I can use the same blog for when I do eventually start to travel, I thought a travel blog with all the extra added thingamybobs would be the way to go. And besides you could argue that I have already started my travels, I just decided to stop off here in Japan for a while on my way. (I also transported some of my blogs from my travels in Japan back in 2005 to keep them all together).
4 days left here in Niseko, and I have mixed feelings about it actually. I have come to love Niseko, it is really a beautiful place, only small of course, which at times can be frustrating when you only have a couple of hundred yen in your purse and the nearest bank is 20 minutes away; but I love it all the same. Working here for the winter season has been a fantastic experience, one I
would recommend to anyone who is thinking of doing it, it doesn't have to be here, any ski resort would do, it really is a blast! I've got so much out of the last 4 months, great new friends, improved my Japanese skills, learnt more about this fascinating country, experience in a busy hotel, experience working in a Japanese company (which was definitely interesting to say the least!), and I now consider myself an intermediate snowboarder!! Walking outside at 8.30am when it has snowed overnight, with the sun shining and the sky blue, the snow glistening and a mountain full of powder beckoning you is the most refreshing, exhilirating thing. I love my beaches, but this is just as good. So yes I will miss Niseko, and all its beauty. But I am also looking forward to leaving.
I could never work full-time in a hotel, the hours are the worst!! And although I have met some absolutely wonderful customers, who love to chat and exchange stories, and give me medicine when I'm sick, and English magazines to read, Japanese food to try and many laughs throughout the day, there are also so many who are just pains in
the ass. Just a little bit of courtesy never hurt anyone. I often think to myself, these people are on holiday, why are they so uptight??? But, this is not the place to complain, and no-one wants to hear it anyway. So yeah, I am looking forward to working a job that has set days off and set hours, no more working 8 or 9 days in a row with one day off and then another 6 or 7 days. It's kinda wearing my body out. But first I'm looking forward to having 2 weeks of no work at all!! No doubt I'll start to relax and get sick , it always happens. I already have tonsilitis, not too bad thank god, as I don't have any days off to go to the doctor, so fingers crossed that I don't get anything else.
I'm looking forward to coming home for a bit to see everyone, yes I know, it will only be for a week, but still looking forward to it anyways. I'll no doubt be busy as a bee, but I hope I can see everyone. I'm still sort of apprehensive about starting my new job down in
Fujiki & me
Me and Fujiki Nishio, Aichi. I am excited about it of course and in a way just want to start now, but apprehensive. I mean will I be a good teacher? Do I have what it takes? Some may say that English is my native language, how hard can it be? But even though I don't want a forever career as an English teacher I still want to be good at it. And of course, making new friends and hoping I like my new home town etc..
It is a relief now that I have finally made my decision to stay though, and now that I have told everyone. I didn't realise how worried I was about telling you all back home, but I have received some truly wonderful and encouraging emails, thank you so much! And I feel all the more better about it. Sad about all that I will be leaving behind, but as Justin said to me: "never look back cos you only get a sore neck" (thanks Jus, the shortest but one of the best responses I got!!).
OK, time to go. Hopefully you all enjoy my blog, I'll try to make it interesting for you all,
Goodbye Niseko
Outside workk on my way home you know pics and videos and funny stories, so you can all really see how I'm living my life, cos I want you all invloved in it even if you are miles away.
