The Tower
This was my guess from the road what Tower I was heading to. I just had a feeling that one was it. So really this event took place a month ago now it seems. Everytime I get on the computer I get distracted and do something else and never end up updating this wonderful blog. I am sorry to all my ex loyal readers who have moved on to Greener more updated pastures. Any way I have about 3 or so major updates. I will put them out this week. This one is the first and it is about my quest. The title of this entry comes from the poem that Stephen King's Dark Tower series was based off of. I picked it because I went to Tokyo over Obon week to find my Dark Tower.
So if you are a fan of the Iron Chef show you will know who the best Iron Chef was. Iron Chef French Hirouki Sakai. So after working all week I went and caught the bullet train to Tokyo. I stayed at a hotel near the Emperial Palace. The hotel was cheap and the room was very small. The bed took up most of the room and it was super comfortable. The Tokyu Inn in Tokyo is a good cheap recomendation. The problem is you really
Confirmation
Sure enough I had the right Tower. have to look at the map to make sure you catch the right road outside the Subway. It is not that far of a walk, but when you take the wrong road and its about 105 outside with blistering humidity and you have over 90 pounds on your back..... well it can be brutal. So when I arrived in Tokyo I found out many of the stations I had visited last year have changed drastically. This did not deter me nor slow me down. What did get me was picking the wrong road outside the subway near my hotel. I walked forever. The shirt I had on (which was a nice button up shirt, I was all dressed up for dinner) was soaked completly. It felt like I had walked into a waterfall. However, I eventually found the hotel and cleaned up and hoped a few trains and reached my destination.
Upon reaching my destination I had to determine where the tower I was looking was located. Surely the Cross Tower would not be hard to find in a megacity of Towers. So I started South. Only realizing that it was SouthWest I was heading. I turned back right
There it is
Behold the 32f La Rochelle away and immediatly found my tower. I was hours early. I did not want to be late for dinner. The reservations were hard to come by. The only reason I was able to book a table was because I was a table of 1 and I would be there when they opened. So I occupied my time by walking around and watching some TV on the iphone. I drank a Dr Pepper and for some reason, I think my throat had gone dry and was not ready for the cold shock that came with the drink. So it felt like a cold icy grip seized my throat and my stomach. I doubled over and my vision blured a bit. After the initial shock passed I careful tried to drink more soda. Luckily I was not hurt too bad and was able to finish it. However, my body was sore the rest of the week. It was really really wierd.
So about half an hour is left for me to go to my dinner. Already Dr Pepper and the Sun have tried to stop me from reaching my dinner. Not wanting to risk being outside any longer I wander inside
The Menu
Here is the menu posted outside the doors. to the 32nd floor. When I reach the floor I take a few pictures before being greated by a hostess. They seat me at the bar to wait for the kitchen to open before I get ushered to my table. Once inside I hesitated to take pictures. The place is very very very nice. Everyone was dressed up and I did not want to ruin the nice mood. My waiter was great. He was from Iran and had lived in Japan for 10 years. I picked a set course and he took the liberty of telling me what I would have. Luckily he chose everything correctly. I had the house red wine and a sampling of fine cheeses. My first course was a salad with seafood, I then had a cold platter of Uni (sea urchin) on a bed of lobster and vegtables, this was followed by froi gras (white duck to be exact) with a mini grape pie to cut some sweetness into the savory froi gras. The main course was French Pigeon with vegtables, this was followed by the cheeses, then the all chocolate dessert, there was fudge, almond, ice cream and a number of different combinations. Throughout
the meal I was served the most wonderful french bread I have ever had. The whole meal was amazing and very very delicious. A fireworks display was also going on outside in different places in Tokyo so I could see them all from my table. The Iron Chef was not there at the time, but my waiter gave me a menu and talked to me for a while inviting me back. He gave me his number so he could let me know if The Chef would be in next time.
So Enjoy the pictures of Tokyo
