To look into the eyes of ‘Princess’ - a rescued and rehabilitated Orang Utan in her home environment was a spine tingling, magical experience. She is one of over 200 Orang Utans that have been returned to their natural habitat by rangers working at Camp Leakey deep in the rain forest of Borneo. Tribal people can fell trees for house building - a big problem is that thye now know the value of palm oil and deliberately set fire to the forest to clear it for growing crops and planting palm oil trees - it is difficult to find culprits and stop them

Pardi was our companion and guide for 4 days. He is a delightful young man. His father and grandfather were slaughtered in a tribal argument 10 years ago. He works to support his family.

Pardi is a local boy made good - with help from his uncle he had extra schooling to learn English and after starting work as a cleaning boy at the lodge he has now become a guide.

wish I had been there
What fantastic photos Rosie!1 Trust the alpha male who is hyper and then sulks to been called Tom!!! Their faces were so soulful and the night listening to the jungle must have been awesome! Can't wait to be 'trapped ' in front of the photo show at Christmas. But forgoodness sake, stay out of harm till you get back safely on Friday. Love Penny
