UBUD
On our Orange Trail walk So the second week we are more or less in the centre of Ubud. Staying at the SenS Spa which was a great spot and a nice hotel. Whilst in Candidasa one of my back teeth crumbled at dinner one night but hard to find appointments up there so made an appointment in Ubud few days in advance! Lots of nerve pain but kept up the Panadol until we could get there. Anyway ended being a pretty bad infection, so three root canals cleaned out. Packed with antibiotics, filled and temp crown, loads and loads of anaesthesia and also oral antis to take til next visit, over two hours in the chair that first visit. Also fell over on way to dentist as some paths terribly broken and uneven then when we were heading out for Regs birthday dinner John bashed headon into a glass door...they say things happen in threes!!! We had booked La Baracca for Regs birthday and it was fabulous, very yummy Italian food! Sister restaurant of the one in Seminyak. After complimentary croquettes and bread we had pizzas, pastas and then they bought out choc lava cakes for birthday surprise, Noah also had a lemon mousse which

Refreshing pool after our daily walks...it was freezing! he thoroughly enjoyed. Not cheap but hey its a birthday celebration and wonderful food, great night had by all! So loved our extra week back in Ubud a slow pace and relaxation were our main aim, though a bit more busy than Candidasa, the restaurants we went to were all fabulous. Probably our fave was Chai of the Tiger, a sensational street food Indian cuisine, went twice and just loved it and were lucky to meet the owner when we went to his closest restaurant to where we were staying, a beautiful young man, from Namibia and very English but married to an Indian girl from Namibia, and he said when they had their wedding in India they had street food at the reception. They were both going to immigrate to Canada but enroute they visited Bali and got caught up with the COVID pandemic and realised there were no Indian Street Food places in Ubud so there you have it and they stayed in Bali and have opened up a second restaurant in Ubud. We did loads of walking around Ubud and loved the walking trail up to the Sweet Orange Cafe, walking through all the rice fields which

Very nice and comfortable accom were so lush, the rainy season is more prominent now, its running a bit late so most afternoons it rained but that didn't stop us from getting out and about. We had another lovely dinner wtih Reg and Adele at their home, with the lamb we bought over with us, so nice to kind of live like a local and we enjoyed our time with them so much. We went back to In Da Compound as we thought this was a magnificent spot right in the hubbub of Ubud but you could have been anywhere in the countryside once you got inside their compound, loved the food and the ambience there. We were not really planning on being down Legian, Seminyak but decided to head down as Nyepi was approaching and thought we would spend it down south and then easy to get to airport for coming back home. So stayed for 8 days in Pettitenget area in a nice hotel with rooftop pool and you could see the Batubelig Beach from there. Got to catch up with our old staff member Ketut and his daughter one day. We were confined to hotel for the 36hrs over Nyepi where you

Haircut 1st up cannot walk outside the hotel but they provided very well for everyone. We visited Alsace, a gorgeous French deli, bought up big on cheeses, salami, pate and also bought a nice bottle of red so that kept us going for the Nyepi holiday. Nyepi eve saw the ogah ogah parade which is a colorful spectacle, after watching a local parade we headed off to York for a lovely dinner, a lot of restaurants were already closed for the holidays. Most days walked a lot and checked out a few of the old haunts, some still there and others gone, Sarong = gone, one of our faves and in its place Amici an Italian Resto, owned by a Michelin star chef. Did a beachwalk down to Legian to watch the footy and the sea was absolutely wild at 3pm one afternoon, every chair had been taken off the beach and there was heaps of rubbish and debrie everywhere and the smell of sewerage in several spots along the beach, just disgusting! Not our thing and I don't think we will come back to this area again. Loved the slower pace up north and on the east coast. A new kid on the

My Saturday afternoon over 2hrs in the chair block is York which is such a good value restaurant and excellent quality of food and the owner and his manager are relatives of the Balinese Royal family, we ate there three times and just loved it and they have gorgeous French wine! Also visited old favourites La Vecchia Tanna, their pizza is still the best, Basil great value tasty food, The Pavillion Surf Club for sports and great seafood but their Curry Rendang Spring rolls are to die for! Visited the beach bars on Batubelig Beach which are always relaxing over a cool drink watching the goings on at the beach! After 4 wonderful weeks here Monday night sees us heading home to get ready for our next adventure!
