One more time, we are on the move. My lovely wife has a new top job as the commercial director of a hotel in the process of rebranding. This is a superb challenge and will keep her super busy for the months to come. So here we are, on the move again calling Bali home since early September for her, and October for me...
For those who ask, home is still also in South Africa too. She will not commute much, but I'll still be between the two places for the months and maybe years to come. Imagine, I've never lived in Indonesia, so this is going to be the 11th country where I will spend more than a year...and yes, we are back to Asia for now!
Tanya is working long hours during the day, so I'm in charge of everything related to home during the week. We lived for over 2 months at the hotel for Tanya, and for me it was just a full month. We have now moved to our own little villa less than 15 minutes from the hotel! Trust me, this place is nice, and our home is way
nicer than the hotel living place we had while in the Seychelles. She is also back to a mainstream hotel group with few advantages on our coming trips!
In November, I was a week at home in South Africa, plus just back from few days in Kuala Lumpur and we are just back from a weekend trip to Surabaya, so yes two more domestic planes. Rushing around, so I have to admit, you will not see entries every few days.
We are using our week-ends to move around. Already did a long weekend in Nusa Penida as well as a cool week-end in Ubud. We live at the Southern tip of the island. The big issue on the island, is the traffic jams...and also, let mention it, the price of wine. A 50kms ride just take over 2 hours in a taxi here. You will not see me either on a motorbike or driving around....I believe the stats of an accident are way too high!
We are taking the week-ends to explore the island. You may be aware that Bali is rigged by traffic jams...so for some of those cool weekends,
we stay in hotels who are just below 40 kms from home! I'm not kidding. It's way more comfortable, plus it feels like a true holiday. Ubud is a very good example of those!!
There will be a lot less diving for me here. Reason is simple, the closest dive site is 3 hours away. Since October, I did dive 3 days in Nusa Penida as well as 5 dives at home in SA in November. Nusa Penida was very cool. Mantas galore, very healthy corals, lots of turtles. This was a pretty weak Mola Mola season as the people I dived with saw max 6 sightings for the full season. I do apologize for the diving pics....my sd card decided to go into error mode. No issue with the camera...but pictures are what they are...I took my phone to copy them from the screen of my camera.
Next diving coming a week from now for a top world class week of diving! I may dive less in term of days spread around a month...but over the coming 12 months, there will be a lot of diving from all around the place...close and far
from here!
So while in Bali....I cook...and play golf. Our little villa is super comfortable and we find most of what we need to cook around here! Paradise for me! Wine is another story...what cost 5usd in a supermarket in South Africa, is only 30usd in a shop here! Insane...but let's put it simply...with connections we have way to get around it. But forget about amazing comments about wine here.
Golf wise, while in Bali, I play every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Found a top group of fun people to play with. We spread our time between 3 courses. All those are less than 20 minutes drive from home. So my golf level will be a very different experience from the frustration I had to deal with in the Seychelles. And yes, South Africa is still the best country in the world when it comes to golf...and quality cheap wine!
Enjoy the pictures! Next blog coming before end of the year...and they should be solid diving ones!
