Edit Blog Post
Well it has been a busy week since the last blog. We have got out and about and seen a lot more of the island, which has been very enjoyable as apart from one evening where it absolutely chucked it down from about 9pm throughout the night, we have had no rain here! That night we took shelter in a pub, but by the time it got to midnight we were very much the worse for wear and we decided to just make a run for it - however we were a good 5 minutes from the hotel, and the rain was so heavy that by the time we got back, we were completely soaked, and we both looked as if we had jumped fully clothed into the pool! But thankfully it has been hot and dry since then, so we went on a trip to see the Royal Temple, Rice Plantations, a Buddhist Temple located on the edge of a lake which was high up and meant that we were in the clouds, a holy place on a beach with lots of caves and a natural spring, and a visit to the jungle where about 800 monkeys live. They were
so cute and you could buy bananas and monkey nuts to feed to them, but the trouble was that they were very greedy monkeys and they could tell who had food and who didn't - and they were quite happy to climb up people who had food to grab it! Got some great pictures which will make it on here soon - technology permitting!
We have also been horse-riding whilst in Bali, on the other side of the island, on a beach which is black as it is made from volcanic sands. It was a lovely contrast, the deep black of the sand against the white froth of the waves that were gently lapping the shore. I wish i could praise the horses but they were a nightmare - i got given a lesbian horse! Tim was riding a female horse called Totty, and mine was called Anna, and Anna would not go where i wanted to at all, every time i "steered" her away from Totty, she would just move back behind Totty the minute i released the reins! So we spent the entire time with me following Tim with Anna's nose close to Tottys backside... however Totty
wasn't too happy about this and kept snorting and kicking at Anna - and Totty also kept trying to bite one of the other horses that the riding man was on - so it was not quite the relaxing experience we had it mind!
We have also been to another part of the island, Nusa Dua, which has a softer, whiter beach than the one in Kuta, and it is much quieter with less people trying to sell tat to us. Whilst there, i went para sailing (which was the most amazing feeling - it just felt like a giant picked me up, then i flew, and then he gently put me down again- definitely something i want to do again!) and we both went jet skiing, and then we took a boat out to sea and went scuba diving. This was absolutely fantastic - the visibility was much better than Koh Tao, and we were able to see so many different types of fish and coral - and also 2 baby sharks!! (thankfully mommy and daddy shark were nowhere to be seen!) Unfortunately neither of us has managed to buy an underwater case for our cameras to show
you just how beautiful it was, but there were fish of all colours, including one fish that literally was every colour of the rainbow and a few more colours on top! The local man who came diving with us brought a bag of bread with him, and so i got to feed the fish - they went crazy for it and i had a job getting the bread out of the bag as i was trying to feed them and they kept nipping me in their panic over getting some before it ran out!
I've also been back to the tailor, and he took me to Densapar today where i picked out two more materials for dresses, and he is also making me some suits. Even better, he is keeping both our measurements so if we want more clothes in the future, he will make them and post them to us.
We moved hotels a few days ago (200000 rupiah a night instead of the 450000 we were paying - so now costing about 11 pounds per night which includes breakfast if you want to get up in time) , and at the new one my room is
on the ground floor, with its own patio, and it opens out onto the pool, which is about 3m from my door - along with some very comfy sunbeds - so I have also finally started to sunbathe, and should have a nice tan by the time i leave here. Tim flew overnight to Perth, and I get there early on the 14th, so i have read up on Perth and worked out what i want to do when i arrive. There is so much to see in Oz and so little time - but one thing is certain - we are going to go diving off Rottnest Island on the 15th - and i really can't wait. I think the only spare day i will have for the entire time i am in Oz will be Australia day on the 26th January - i figured a day partying and drinking wouldn't hurt! So because of the hectic schedule coming up, i plan to have as relaxing a time as i can whilst in Bali. I am going to the Elephant Safari tomorrow, where amongst other things i will get a 35 minute ride on an elephant, but apart from
this i just intend to sunbathe, sleep, read, and maybe have another massage or two.... i have had two so far whilst here - the other day i had an hours massage on my back and shoulders, followed by a facial, and then had my hair washed and blow dried, and the total cost was less than 6 pounds!!!
Bali is definitely a place i would revisit!
