The best pick up line weve heard so far on the kuta beach!
hello everybody!!!!
I know it's been a while since the last blog but we were on the move there for a few days and then I just got a little lazy!!....sorry, but anyways here's the update...
Presently we are in Bali but I'm going to go in order so after NZ we headed to Singapore for two days. Singapore is HOT!! really, really hot and muggy....it was not fun and very difficult to get used to after NZ where we were both rarely without our thermals and at least two layers on top. Singapore is a really interesting city. It has a very large downtown/busy area (like 3+) dt vancouvers...the architechture and size of the buildings are amazing...but it was hot and we didnt want to spend alot of money there so we pretty much walked around different districts (chinatown, little india, the arab area and so on..) weaved our ways through the 13 billion shopping malls and food courts-mainly for an a/c break- and then chilled out at night in our dodgy hostel....lets just say that the kitchen, diningroom, tv room and bathroom were
all the same room ...oh and the room was open to the outside... in little india ash and I both got henna on our hand and foot - beautiful and cheap....for singapore that was about it....we didnt need more than the two days we were there...
BUT THEN BALI.....aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!
The night we arrived in the Bali we were both worried about having troubles bringing our electronics in (cause devon, ash's sister, had trouble one time) but thankfully we did not and we got a cab pretty easily into Kuta...as our cabbie pulled up the legian (the main street in kuta) he informed us that it was the 4 year anniversary of the bombing...WOW...as we wandered down a busy, busy street with scooters and cars zooming by and honking all the time, searching for a street that we later discovered is about 3ft wide from legian, we walked right into the memorial service being held at the memorial....it was fairly intense and we were very hot and weighed down by our stuff so we just moved through to find a bed and the get the heavy packs off our backs... The past 7 days here have been unbelievable, I
couldn't wish to be anywhere else right now....everyday a varying combination of beach, pool, surfing, shopping, eating out, meeting people, relaxing, massaging, walking and just enjoying the beautiful surroundings! I have now taken my open water scuba diving certificate and have made 4 ocean dives-two in coral about a 1/2hr from kuta and 2 with ash at Tulamben a sunken naval ship that is covered in coral and 400 different kinds of fish....Let's just sum it up as phenominal!!!! We saw sting ray, ash saw a baby black tip shark, lion fish and so much more...I love being down there there is so much to see and you feel so relaxed... On the drive to Tulamben we saw our first glimpses of the rice patties and the beautiful scenery that Bali has to offer. The people here, although sometimes VERY annoying becuase they never stop trying to sell or give you "transport" and so many times no! does not sink in, they are very friendly and helpful and love to hear about Canada and our lives there! Yesterday we went on a snorkel trip in a glassbottom boat and then to turtle island! sounds nice doesnt it?! - well actually
both ash and i have decided that we are never snorkeling again becuase after you have scuba'd it's not enough, and the glass in the boat was tiny...but turtle island was great! They catch the turtles to allow them to have babies and for somewhere to put their eggs becuase the water around Nusa Dua is too busy..the babies are released after they are about 1 yr old and we saw all stages from acouple months(shells are still soft) to 50 years old..they are beautiful animals and we so amazing to see close up!!! They also had some other animals there: big bats (biggest ive ever seen and ash was not happy about that she wouldn't even go near them or let me take a picture of it with her camera), 2 pythons (neither of us got closer than 5 ft and did not touch it! and an eagle and tucan which we got to hold! We both really want to see a turtle while diving! Ash was helpful to remind us that turtles have saminila as we were stroking their shells-dont worry we washed well and arent sick yet!!!?? (knock on wood) the night life here is always good but only from midnight until the sun comes up....the bounty where most people go is actually a huge boat!? good times and the drinks are cheap too -- but watch out the arak (local booze) has the subtly of a hammer , thank you for the quote lonely planet! we also have given a hand at surfing for a couple of days...both have been minorly successful but it's too much fun to let that dampen our spirits...I actually look forward to the times i fall on my face and swallow 1L of salt water....we all laugh and things are good! ahhahahahahah....
Tomorrow we are going to head upto Sanur for a few days and then to Ubud...try to check out as much as we can of this great island! Our tans are looking better everyday and that's all I will mention about that! I will talk quickly about the cheapness here- our hotel (albeit not the most extravagant but decent) is $5 a night for each one of us....on average we eat for about $3-5...our one hour full body massage and i mean full bum and boobs too! is $5 (how can such small ladies have such strong hands??)....most stuff we have bought we don't spend more than $3-13 on unless it is big or silver or something....at the bank machines we take out 1 500 000 at a time because the Balinese rupea is 8 000 to 1 canadian $.....try to wrap your head around that will shopping and bartering for prices!!!
Anyways that sums up the last bit of time for us, we are having an amazing time and I love to think that we still have so much time to see and be here in these beautiful places!
If you hate me I understand becuase ive heard its raining at home...sorry 😞 but make sure one day you try to come see this wonderful place!
Love you all lots and sorry I was tardy with the message....hope all is well at home and love you again...
