Today we spent the morning around the hotel and in the pool. We have been blessed with sensational weather since we arrived and a morning swimming in the pool is a great way to prepare us for the afternoon walk.
In the afternoon we headed into Kuta to have a good look around and walk the streets. We started off by walking along the beach again which is much easier than having to fight the traffic and pedestrians on the road. It’s also very pleasant and there are also a few stall holders along the way, all with the coldest drinks in Bali.
The plan was to go to Poppies Lanes, two narrow streets that run from the beach to Jalan Legian, the main night club area. These two streets are full of shops and places to eat and stay. We bought a few things from the shops and while we were looking into the various hotels and guest houses we decided to enquire about one.
It is called Poppies Cottages and is set behind a high wall with just a narrow entrance set into the wall. There are twenty cottages in the complex and we inspected a
room and they are absolutely fabulous. We will certainly look into this place next time we come to Bali.
After walking up Poppies Lane I, we came to Jalan Legian, where we wanted to visit the Bali Memorial for the bomb victims. When we spotted the memorial we both had that tingling sensation we felt in the war cemeteries in Europe and PNG. It’s difficult to explain the feeling even though you didn’t know any of the victims involved. October 12
th 2002, the day Bali lost its innocence. This is still reflected in the amount of security around today.
We then headed to Poppies Lane II and although there are not as many shops here, we found a sufy restaurant called Tubes and had a really good lunch. After lunch we followed the land through to the beach and had Peach and Mango Sundae at McDonalds. Yum.
Afterwards we went Kuta Square and went into a department store called Matahari – absolutely huge on 4 levels. After about five hours of walking it was time to head back to the hotel for a refreshing swim and revive the tired feet. My ipod pedometer doesn’t appear to be
working as it says we only did about 3800 steps, more like 13,800.
This evening, first thing on the agenda was foot reflexology. After walking the gauntlet of about 20 various massage places we chose on called Cinto. Six dollars plus a tip for an hours relaxation and at the end when we were walking back you felt like you walking on air. Nothing bets a good reflexology massage for making the pegs feel great.
A light dinner was in order and that was where a box of chocolates and running shoes sounded good. Off to Bubba Gumps for dinner. The food was delicious and we both enjoyed our meal, which was only an entrée anyway. The end of another great day an tomorrow off on a tour.
That’s all I have to say about that.
