We knew the day would come when we would have to leave Asia and return to reality. Honestly, after seven weeks of travel, we were both ready to head home. The prior day we arranged to have a late checkout at 2pm so we leisurely ate breakfast in the late morning. We lounged in the room and packed for our 12,000-mile voyage home.
When we did depart the hotel, we took a grab back into Kuta to pick up our custom bags from
Bali Soul Leather. The ride took a little over an hour and only cost about 120K IDR (~$8). Our leather bags turned out great! The craftsmen picked up on some details from the
picture of Kristy’s bag that had not been discussed. Brad’s bag was great and the shopkeeper was excited because they had never made a bag quite like it. We left the shop delighted with our purchase.
With our bags in tow, we grabbed a quick lunch at a patio restaurant. Brad took the last opportunity to look for another pair of fake designer sunglasses. He was looking specifically for a pair of classic Ray-Ban aviators with gold metal. None of the shops that we looked
at had the commonly forged accessory. This could have made for a great negotiating strategy because it made walking away very convincing to merchants who were more than eager to sell us anything else at a cut-rate. In the end, we couldn’t find the right pair and passed.
Our flight was not until 12:35 AM the next morning but we got to the airport a little after 5:00 PM. We were hoping to check our bags, clear security, and go to a priority pass lounge. Unfortunately, we learned that we would not be able to check bags until 9:00 PM. We found a quiet spot in the terminal and settled in. Kristy watched a movie on her kindle and Brad wrote a couple blogs. Every so often we would get up and walk around the terminal in a vain attempt to improve our condition.
Finally, 9:00 PM rolled around and we headed to a lounge. We grabbed some dinner, charged up devices, and downloaded media to sustain us on our 9-hour flight to
Doha, Qatar. The flight was mostly uneventful and moderately comfortable. We had a three-hour layover in Doha. We utilized another lounge for breakfast and coffee
before walking around the entire airport. Getting up and stretching our legs was crucial as we were about to embark on a 16-hour flight to
Houston, Texas. We cleared US TSA and boarded our
777-200 LR aircraft. The flight was terribly long but the destination was well worth the journey. After seven weeks abroad, landing on our home soil of the United States of America was wonderful.
While the official “honeymoon phase” of our marriage was now over, we are both excited about the shared lives we will be building together in Dallas, Texas and expect many more honeymoon like days in our future.
