A clapped out World War II German staff car
Spent much of the day in Candidasa, although there was not much to report according to my diary. We did need to complete some chores before we left for Australia, including checking for mail at the American Express office. Andy was the last to check, but the woman in the office had some trouble understanding the name 'Gifford'. In the end, he was getting frustrated and in a final, desperate attempt tried "Golf, Indigo, Foxtrot, Foxtrot, Omega, Romeo Delta". Most of the people in the office were very impressed and some amused, but we all felt sympathy for the poor woman. You could see the life drain out of her as she almost started to cry, and we felt duty bound to step in and try to help her out - but probably with five of us all talking to her, it only made matters worse.

As you can tell, it was the only highlight in a very dull day.

After all the jobs were done, we headed back to Kuta and returned the cars. We had a bit of a go at the bloke in the office about the reliability of the vehicles he rents out, but it

was quite obvious that he didn't give a dam and would pass them on to some other unsuspecting foreigners the moment we left.

A triple was called for.
