After a great nights sleep we wake up feeling refreshed and ready for our next adventure. Breakfast is a huge buffet of all kinds of food but as we are in India we stick to the Indian food. Essentially I eat a full blown Indian dinner for breakfast with three types of curry and fried chapatis. All very tasty and the fatty within loves it, much better than eggs and bacon. We are flying to Dehradun today and decide we will take the metro instead of a cab as we have been told that the traffic will be bad and it could take over 2 hours to get there. So we start our mini adventure with a short moto rickshaw ride to the metro from the hotel, we get into one and he crosses two lanes ... read more

The land of sages and of adventure A place where spirituality meets leisure: it's rishikesh For Delhites, a weekend' s perfect getaway is Rishikesh. One need not even have a plan for a trip to this place. I planned at night and by 12 in the noon next day I was off for Rishikesh. It's hardly 200-250 kms from Delhi and requires 6-7 hours in a bus. Its a complete vacation of an aam Aadmi. A private vehicle takes even lesser. But if you are going for the purpose of refreshing yourself then I recommend you to take a bus and leave the tension of driving on to the state bus driver. The bus ticket ranges from 500-800 rupees depending on the ac or non ac requirement. If you are traveling in summers -March, April , ... read more

I'm sorry that it's been so long since I've updated! After I arrived at yoga school I was pretty much consumed by the busy schedule, I barely had time to sleep. Enough excuses. Yoga school was amazing, emotional, exhausting, educational--and I am so glad I did it! The ashram is stationed in the beautiful city of Rishikesh, which itself is nestled in between the Himalayas and the Ganges river, providing unbelievable views. Rishikesh is much more peaceful than the other Indian cities I've visited. Most of the people there will tell you that the only two businesses that survive there are coffee and yoga--two of my passions--so I was overall very happy with the location. It is also illegal to eat meat there so there was an astounding amount of vegetarian food all over the place. ... read more

India is a country where both the natural and spiritual worlds share a deep and primordial connection. This is a place where natural elements like air, fire, earth and water are revered as gods. The most important of these natural deities are the rivers of India and the most powerful amongst them is the river Ganga. She is a water goddess who descended from the heavens to cleanse the humans of all their sins. She has been a blessing to the hot and crowded plains of the northern India through countless millennia, by creating and replenishing one of the most fertile soils on earth. All around her the great cycles of birth, death and rebirth are endlessly played out. Flowing through these natural and spiritual worlds is the Ganga - India’s river of life. India has ... read more

One month until my birthday! I've certainly been faced with the challenge to grow gracefully here in India. I'm starting to warm up to her as I realize that it's just not going to be an easy trip. She's going to chew me up and spit me out as something new. No exaggeration, every single day has been a new adventure. It's still an awesome experience though- I wake up to the Ganga, food costs less than $1 most days, I've got a plethora of good friends... Rishikesh is a dry town and meat free. Orion and I hadn't even noticed that until someone mentioned it. We so quickly had taken it for granted that we could walk into any spot and have a sober conversation or order almost anything on the menu and get it ... read more

Judging myself as a yogi on retreat, I'm having a hard time accepting that I'm not really enjoying India. There's a ton of factors involved of course- a big one being that my travel partner and I aren't even on speaking terms anymore. But I'm having trouble seeing and feeling India for the vibrant place it could be. I've witnessed so much pollution (trash and noise) and places that must have adapted to tourism in the ugliest ways. While I've met some genuinely nice Indians, I've also been scammed and harassed by a great number more. On another note, while the circumstances of why I'm alone aren't ideal, I'm really enjoying the freedom and independence. I can go where I want with no agenda and can change my mind at any second without explanation. I can ... read more

I, with my colleague Hemant Raj, decided to go at Haridwar and Rishikesh. I used to travel Haridwar and Rishikesh every monthly or fortnightly. So we were familiar to this place, however this time we decided to go by bus. On Saturday 9-Jul-16, we wrapped our office work and decided heading towards Haridwar. We took Metro from our Office and reached Kashmiri gate ISBT at 9pm. We came out from metro then took dinner at Dhaba near ISBT and went inside bus stand launge. Day -1: Delhi to Rishikesh: Our Char Dham Yatra booked through RadheShyam was to start from New Delhi Railway station at 12.00 pm on 9th May. We reached Delhi by train from Ahmedabad at 7.30. And we started at 11.30. Our first halt was at Rishikesh, about 225 km from Delhi. It was hot all throughout, although the road side views were lush green. In June, 2013, there was a cloud burst in the hills upwards of Kedarnath leading to flash floods in River Mandakini and subsequent widespread destruction and large number of deaths including many pilgrims. The authorities were at a loss even to estimate casualties. Since then a registration system has been introduced while starting Char Dham Yatra. Registration can be done at many places from Haridwar onwards. The registration slip shows your ... read more
