Friday 7 May The days within the weeks are now blending to become one continuous string of days; weekends we have to remind ourselves are upon us and when others around the world are having a weekend, we too have to realise that our journey, especially the planning of it, is curtailed because there are not the people at the other end of the email or phone to help us plan our way forward. The number of boats with onlookers was quite fasinating both Indian visitors as well as foreigners.

This temple had been affected by the high waters of the Ganges, which were low when we were on the river, but by July, the water levels will be 20 feet higher than they are present and the river width will widen by more than a mile in some places.

This man sort of became our minder for the duration of our stay and organised for our car to have its horn repaired as well as the tyre. He called John his big brother (by at least 20 years!).

That scooter you see is our little brother going off with our wheel to have the nasty nail we had in it, removed and hole repaired. It took just 20 minutes!

The moslem sector and silk

Varanasi silk is regarded as very high class and we were taken on a tour of the area in Varanais where the silk cloth is made. Within a 100km square area of this city, where the moslems live, each house, some 1000, so we were told, had a weaving loom inside where every member of the family was involved in producing silk fabrics. This is where we saw young and old handling very old and decrepid machinery, which I sure must cause some awful injuries.

Couldn't resist this one! I had asked for the bathroom on arriving at a pizzeria, and got shown it via the cowshed - the comment being that was the fresh milk source for our milkshakes etc! The pizzas were good though.

But car to be shipped next week and we are here in Chennai safe and sound for the time being. Hope all well with you too, and hope that family of yours in Sydney will be able to come along and meet us when we arrive. I think we are sort of still on schedule. Yours aye, Barry

Why do you visit India, if it is to find faults with everything there, nitwit? Visitors like you are not welcome in India at all.

India
Every country has its good and bad. If you cared to read it all you would have seen that we found India fascinating and exciting and there were some fabulous sights to see and experience. That said, our journey by road exposes things that may not be seen by ordinary visitors and our experiences reflect that.
