Thought we'd do another blog as so much has happened in the last few days.......
On our second day in Udaipur we hired a rickshaw and our own personal driver for the day. This allowed us to see parts of the city that we never knew existed. We started at the 2 smaller lakes and finished at a view point on the top of a hill over looking the city. On the top of this hill was the famous Monsoon Palace which was featured along with many other sights around Udaipur in the James Bond film 'Octapussy". Along the way we stopped to take pictures of ornately dressed camels and the Royal Cremation ground. Yet another jam packed day.
Our third and final day in Udaipur took us to the Rannakpur Temple. Although this meant a four hour round trip our taxi driver took great care of us by buying us a flower each, stopping for some local Massala Chai (Indian sweet tea) in a small village as well as feeding carrots to some monkeys on the roadside before we reached the temple. The temple was stunning featuring 1044 pillars and having a perfect setting in the mountains.
When settling up at our guest house we were amazed to discover that our bill for 3 days (incl. 2 nights accommodation, 3 dinners and breakfasts, 4 hr taxi drive and transfer to and from the station) cost us 1000INR each....the equivalent of 11 pounds!!!
It was back to Delhi on an overnight train that evening where the next day we met up with our tour group. We took ourselves off into Delhi and came back feeling a lot more at ease with the city.
Our second day in Delhi consisted of visiting the largest mosque in Delhi, the local spice market and a Sikh temple. The evening was spent getting to know the rest of the group over dinner! It was here that we had our first "proper" drink in India even though it took us a fair amount of time to even find a bar. Everyone in our group seems lovely-a nice mix of ages, personalities and nationalities.
Now we come to today which was the day we had all been waiting for. We made our way on train very early this morning to the city of love - Agra - the home of the magnificent Taj Mahal. Before hand we visited
the Red Fort and a tour guide took us round which really brought the place to life. After a spot of lunch and a quick visit to a local carpet factory, we made our way to the Taj Mahal. It completely lived up to all expectations regardless of the large number of other tourist sharing this breath-taking experience with us. We had 2 hours to take in the sight and in this time we were about to take many pictures from many different spots and venture inside the monument which seemed deceptively small in relation to the exterior.
We head off tomorrow (Tuesday) for Chanderi-a small village where we be looked after and cooked for by a local family. Internet access is unlikely for the next few days so we will try and send an update at the first possible chance. Hope you are all well.....wish you were here....and we are loving all your comment, keep them coming xxx
