July 2007 Arrived in India after being away 9 years. Many many changes. Spent the first two days in Delhi dodging autorickshaws and cow shit. Then up to Manali on the night bus 16 hours, coulda hung a side of beef in there the aircon was so cold and three hindi movies back to back was a bit over the top but arrived alive.
Stayed in Old Manali for a couple nights, this is directly across the valley from Vashist. I liked Vashist much better. Old Manali has more tourists than locals, Vashist more locals than tourists. This area is a great place for r&r. cool mountain breezes, good sleeping, great food, amazing treks. Misty mornings but it usually burns off by 10, still a lot of rain here. It's the height of monsoon season after all.
