Just something interesting I found out about India. Drugs are really treated harshly here with marijuana getting you 10 years in jail. Ever see, Midnight Express??? I find this strange since most of the really good pot that I have ever tried seemed to come from India (i never inhaled). I mean where did the hukka pipe originate from? India, that's where. This is a country of hypocrisies but it's such an amazing place. Don't worry, I'm not going to stay here, but I see why people have. I've been trying to get to sleep, but for some reason I can't get Eminem's "Guess Who's Back" out of my head.

I feel a lot more comfortable now. I was a bit homesick due to lack of sleep, crappy bed, and utter missage of my cat, Caribe. However, our friend, Rachel who is with the group from the U.S. came to our room to say hi. A little more back story on why I'm here. As you know my good friend Melanie is getting married. There are a gaggle of us here from the states and we are doing a Northern tour after the

Okay, maybe they were the salespeople who helped me pick out the outfit three day weddng. Danielle and I are staying an extra four days after that and heading home. Got it? My homesickness is my m.o. for big trips like this one. I did the same thing for my Asia trip. Was kind of sad in the beginning and then after I got into the swing of things, namely getting some sleep, and finding out if our animals were okay, I was fine. This seems to be the case for India because after Rachel showed us around Bombay, I was feeling pretty psyched. I've known Rachel 15 years and to see a friendly face in a foreign country is like having a cold beer on a hot day. Relief.
I'm really shocked that people said to not drink the tap water here. I've been drinking it since I've gotten here and I'm fine. To all of you who said that you could get deathly ill from drinking it, I don't know what you were thinking. In fact, right now I'm going out to play with rabid monkeys in the street, juggle ginzu knives, and watch Red Eye again. Psych! There is no amount of rupees you can pay me to drink

Melanie in the pink is the bride to be this water. Seeing and smelling their water is enough for me. So if I were you, I'd invest greatly in bottled water because Danielle and I are going through it like, well, water. Before we left, the woman who gave me vaccinations specifically warned me to keep my mouth shut tight during showers. In fact, my mouth is so tightly shut in the shower that Danielle has given me a nickname. I'm now known as the Sphinx when I'm showering. And this is not after the Sphinx from Egypt. It's from the muscle you have below your waist because we all know how tight it can get when some effort is made. Thanks, Danielle for the name. What happens in India doesn't necessarily stay in India.
India is crazy. There is really know other way to put it. People sleeping in the streets, traffic like you wouldn't believe, and The Sphinx. Picture New York on steroids. Not creatine or some weak steriod, I'm talking Jose Canseco/Barry Bonds long-word steroids because it's even more multicultural, busy, loud, and dirty than N.Y. could ever be.
There are 17 languages spoken here. Hindis, Muslims, Jews, Christians all living together, all living
feet within each other. Asia helped prepare me for this, but not nearly enough. There are so so many people here. It's like rabbits here. Or more like Gremlins because it seems like all these people couldn't have been born here and living like this all their lives. Someone must have spilled some water on one of them and then they multiplied. But then, the water is really bad here. Disgusting bad. People bathe in the street with water from the sewer after they wake up from their bed which consists of a blanket on a concrete sidewalk. After their "bath" they try to earn some money in whatever way they can.
This is just the way they live and in our standards, it's too depressing to comprehend. But because there's such a great number of them, you get numb. In my short time here, I've gotten numb. I think you have to or you'd cry yourself to sleep and wonder if there was a God and if there is, why hasn't he/she helped these people.
My hour's almost up so I must fly. I will explain more about India, the wedding, and how Rachel made me cheer
up. Don't worry, Danielle knows all about it. Until next time, stay gold.
