Banana Flower
Which produces alcohol called Toddy Our day started really really early to go on a bird watching walk with Matthew which was really nice we saw loads.
We had a quick breakfast then took a tuk-tuk to the public government boat to Kottyam. The boat took about 2.5hours and only cost 10rupees ( 13pence! ) It was a great way to see the backwaters and we both fell asleep as it was so calm on the boat.
We the took a public bus to Kumily where the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is. The 4hours bus journey was quite an experience for about 90p. Firstly he drove like a rally car driver, racing round hair pin bends on high up mountain edges. Then there was a framed picture of Jesus with flashing lights above the driver! They played Scooter and Indian music loudly.
We arrived about midday in Kumily where we found a room in “Coffee Inn” actually it was a tree house! Which had views straight into the wildlife park.
In the evening we went out to try and find a beer, finding the only shop in town which legally sold alcohol was the government shop. Lucky for us there was a male ‘Q’ and a female
Ants in our room
Dont mess with them they wont mess with us. ‘Q’ and there we no females in the queue at all so we got served straight away we bought some Indian rum, which went really well with 7-up. Females don’t really drink in India, one of our guilds said that its quiet a bad action for a female to do, in some cases he said, you could kicked out of the household.
