Quite a night on the houseboat! Air-conditioning on the blink so either hot or cold - no in between! But what a beautiful sight to wake up to...we all had showers and a breakfast of omelettes, toast and pineapple whilst looking out onto the water. It was an early morning because today we were setting off on a canoeing trip and didnt want to get destroyed in the mid day heat. Following breakfast we set off on a 20 minute cruise to where the canoeing kick off point was. Saying goodbye to our boat we met up with Anoop and Anil who grabbed our gear and transferred into another boat before we met up with our canoeing guide for the day.
Dad paired with Chloe, Mum paired with Lucas and Phoebe went by herself. It took us all a little while to get used to it all but we were motoring along in no time - a brilliant way to see the countryside and life by the river. Once again, everyone wanted to say hello and we were a constant object of mirth for the locals! However, it was great fun, we had a short stop half way through where
Anoop had set up a little picnic for us of mango, biscuits, watermelon and oranges before heading off again (this time : mum and dad, Phoebe and Chloe with Lucas by himself). No one fell in (although Phoebe nearly rolled a couple of times!), but there were some sore arms by the end...all in all though we had a great time and managed to get a different perspective of the beautiful area of Alleppey.
It was an hours journey to our next hotel: The Abad Turtle Beach Hotel - which is a stunner. WE were met with the obligatory flower necklace again and checked in before being taken to our apartments. Mum and Dad have a double bedroom with a shower that opens up into the forest. The kids have 3 beds that is attached but with no connecting door. So, we are all pretty happy. Plenty of space and plenty of activities to keep us occupied. We immediately went out to the private beach which is gorgeous, Phoebe immediately jumped in one of the hammocks outside the apartment and we spied the games room, badminton and, most importantly for mum, the massage area.
Tomorrow is a rest
day so we are looking forward to just chilling out by the pool and reading. We went out for dinner at the hotel which is by the beach then came back to our rooms to watch Slumdog Millionaire which is based in Mumbai!
Before we went to bed though we got the bad news that our flights have been cancelled by Jet Airways and we are going to need to find another way back! DISASTER. The travel agents are on the case though so hopefully they will sort something out! Fingers crossed as Dad needs to get to China, the kids need to start school and Mum is desperate to get back to Floyd!!
