Mysore..riding elephants
With Eduardo Contreras, representing University of Chile in our study tour 2009Bangalore is more than horrible traffic jam, temples and cows.
New urbanization is coming and the city is changing its face.
In a step elephant,some say... ok, but progress is a real fact. New information technologies, democracy, english spoken, prestigious academic centres and entrepeneurial indian companies are stepping at slow pace but determinated.
Looking back, after a second visit to India, I recognise that Bangalore´s visit was a highlight in my study tour, of the Master in Global Management.
In just one week, we learnt much more about India and its profound complexity than the knowledge we could learnt just through formal education.
The local realities; diverse social backgrounds; political streams; ancestral knowledges and faiths, were constantly defeating any kind of management rule.
Occidental views about logistic, marketing, operations, leadership styles and politics were just absolutly useless when you were trying to understand what on the hell you were experiencing in the street.
Classes at IIMB Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore, were just brilliant.
Open minders lecturers, showing their own ideas and oppinions, giving us, in few hours, tons of information just to have a simplified big picture about what is India in the
global competition today.
Visits to IT companies such as Infosys and Mindtree were quite interesting...and a Biotech company that I don´t really remember much about, odd feeling and funny costumes to get into operations tour...hahaha
Ah! Our chilean national party was celebrated down there...but, that is part of another story by itself.....hahaha

Bangalore es más que tacos horribles, templos y vacas.
La nueva urbanización está llegando y la ciudad está cambiando su faz. A pasos de elefante, dicen algunos...ok, es cierto, pero el progreso es un hecho.
Nuevas tecnologías de la información, democracia, manejo del inglés, prestigiosos centros académicos y compañías indias emprendedoras van marcando un paso lento pero seguro.
Mirando hacia atrás, luego de una segunda visita a India, puedo dar fe que la visita en Bangalore fue un imperdible en mi study tour del Magister de Gestión para la Globalización.
En una semana, aprendimos mucho más de India y su profunda complejidad, que lo que hubiésemos aprendido sólo a través de la educación formal.
Las realidades locales, raíces sociales diversas, ideales politicos, conocimiento ancestral y credos, estaban constantemente desafiando cualquier tipo de disciplina de la gestión.

In the study tour at IIMB occidentales sobre logística, marketing, operaciones, estilos de liderazgo y manejo político fueron más que inútiles a la hora de entender que cresta sucede en la calle.
Clases en el Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore fueron simplemente brillantes.
Relatores abiertos de mente, mostrando sus ideas propias y rudas opiniones. Nos dieron, en pocas horas, montón de información sólo para poder entender la figura general de lo que es India en la competencia global de hoy.
Visita a Infosys, el sueño americano presente en India para los jóvenes profesionales locales interesados en TI. Un mundo ideal al medio de la pobreza abismante, carreteras colapsadas, caminos de tierra y peligrosas vacas sagradas que andan como pedro por su casa.
Visita a MindTree, especie de silicon valley on the run, emprendedores indios que estuvieron en US, se aburrieron de US y que traen el estilo US para hacer nuevos negocios y dar empleo local.
Palacio de Mysore...varias horas de ida, que valen la pena.....luego más horas de vuelta buscando algun lugar para comer...inolvidable!!
Y el 18 y 19 de septiembre que las celebramos allá....pero esa es otra gran historia..jajaja
