Riding Horseback up the 2nd Most Dangerous Path in the WorldRiding Horseback up the 2nd Most Dangerous Path in the WorldRiding Horseback up the 2nd Most Dangerous Path in the World

Look at me. So unsuspecting. Unaware of what's soon to come. Look out Samir, LOOK OUT!!!
Samir's article. The gas in your lungs, the droppings on your shoes. That's the Himalayas for ya. Just yesterday we finished a 5 day trek in the Himalayas (the pain!) so you can probably guess there's a lot to tell.

Day 1: We drove up a mountain, through some creeks and streams (thank god for land rovers) to get to a place for equipment and such. Then we set off with a parade of ponies and an army of guides. That day we just went around the mountain to have lunch, then came back to stay for the night. Alia managed to get kicked by a horse and bit by a dog (she has such a way with animals) and we all got attacked by a cloud of bees. There were also some ruins, great for playing hide and seek in.

Day 2: This day we technically started our trek. We went straight up to a cold plateau, then on a thin, rocky path to our campsite.

Day 3: We stayed at our old campsite but walked down to a lake in a valley. There we chased, were followed by and attacked by sheep. That night we had

Okay, so they're really kashmiri robes, but hey, a guy can have his sci-fi dreams, can't he?
a bonfire and we beat out a beat on the old gas tank.

Day4: We stayed another night at the same campsite and walked up to another lake. There was a lot of snow, snow leopard tracks but no sheep. However, our campsite was invaded by them at dinner. Twice.

Day 5: We went back the way we came and drove back to the boathouse

More when we drive to Ladak.

Anyone know that sheep poking is a national sport in Kashmir, along with flirting with death?
