Rann of Kutch is not unknown territory anymore since the Rann Utsav is being promoted internationally by Gujarat Government since the first one organized in 2005.

This year it is going to take place again at Dhordo village-bordered with world famous white salt desert where this festival will begin on 15th December 2013 and will last till 14th February 2014.

Every day there will be cultural programmes, crafts demonstration stalls, adventurous sports and other ongoing entertainments. However key attractions will remain the Great Rann of Kutch, Sunset on horizon, Full moon night festival, carnival in Bhuj and local site seeing every day. If you scratch its history it will take you back in 1980-90s when it used to organize in middle school ground, Bhuj. That time it was being celebrated as truly cultural event, a real demonstration of artistic and cultural heritage of Kutch (Kachchh) Now-a-days it is organized at Dhordo village which is one of the well known villages in Banni area beside Hodka, Bhirandiyara, Ludiya, etc. Banni area is famous for its wonderful geographical richness where cattle herders who have been living in huts made of mud, woods and grass. Women are skilled embroiderers and Men are busy raising cattle in the vast grassland which turns into flat desert in summer and wetland after monsoon.

Kutch is becoming more and more industrial area since after the Earthquake of 2001 and outside influences are intruding here gradually yet the region has remained one of the cultural and traditional corners not only in Gujarat but also in India.
