DAY 10: Our first evening in Hong Kong was very full on - we arrived at our hostel on Sunday afternoon in Mong Kok, Kowloon which is the main shopping area of Hong Kong. I think the entire population of 7 million people descended on this area on Sunday afternoon - it was manic. Think of Oxford Circus, on a Saturday, the week before Christmas then times it by 100 and you’ll get somewhere close. You could hardly move on any of the streets. It was all a little overwhelming so we had a quick dinner and then went to bed a little early.

DAY 11: We woke up and were eager to spend sometime in the beautiful harbour and see Hong Kong Island. We headed for the metro and caught this down to the Kowloon Harbour where we brought tickets for the Star Ferry. We sailed Victoria harbour in a replica of the original ferry which ran over 100 years ago. After the cruise we hopped off in Hong Kong Island and went to a very good Cantonese restaurant which was recommended by Lonely Plant - no disappointment - the food was delicious. We then made our way up

the The Peak by tram - which was an experience. It was extremely steep and I held white knuckled onto the seat in front most of the way. Once we got to the top there was a huge shopping mall with loads of restaurants, bars and places to shop. We headed straight up to the observation deck - the view was spectacular. We stayed for the sunset which on a clear day would have been amazing, unfortunately for us there were too many clouds around. It was a long day so we headed back to the hostel for the evening.

DAY 12: Today we visited Lamma Island which is one of the outlying islands in Hong Kong. We were promised sandy beaches and great seafood restaurants - we arrived and were a little disappointed. It may have been the weather but we couldn’t really figure out why people would come over for the day. To be fair we didn’t explore very much so there may have been more the island had to offer than what we saw. We headed back to Kowloon Pier to take in the sights of Hong Kong Island at night and we weren’t disappointed. We

then had dinner in Tsu Tsai Sui which is the main tourist area and headed home to the hostel.
