HK skyline
HK skyline Our first impression of Hong-Kong was: It is very hot here
The second we thought of Hong-Kong was: It is hot and very humid here
Our third insight of Hong-Kong was when we were stranded in McDonald's 1/2 hr walk from the hotel. We understood where the humidity went - it becomes pouring rain in the evening. We were stranded in the rain.
But don't let first impressions fool you.
We were very impressed with the city. reminded Yaron of NYC. not only because of the architecture but also because of the big town feeling. a place you can find everything fast and everything moves at a fast pace. underground, museums, Meany people on the street cafes. it you have been to Manhattan/London/Malian or TLV you know who it is.
Like they said on
Pulp Fiction :
it is all about the little differences
So here are our findings:
1. HK is one HUGE shopping mall. open till midnight (at least we when to sleep). with 7 million people shopping constantly. all the big names are here. when walking in Nathan St (a long boulevard in Kowloon) the feeling was that you re in the center of the world. Something
Hagit in the HK skyline
see the rain comming :) like what the Champs Elise was in the 60s?
2. HYGIENE! Hong-Kong is very crazy for personal hygiene to fight SARS, avian flue and other HOLERA. in the airport we were screened for fever. in every bathroom there are instructions how to correctly wash you hands, in shops and offices buildings where there are no water faucets you can always find an alcoholic sanitizing hand lotion. and when people start feeling sick they are encouraged to put a face mask (and they do just that!)
3. We will not bother you with the tourist places but we were especially impressed with the light show. Every night you can see from across the harbour the HK skyline like you can see Manhattan from Brooklyn. At 20:00 all the buildings start changing colors, emitting lights and lasers to the sound of music. HUGE buildings. Km apart all dancing to the sound of music.
HK is a good place to finish our trip but we are just beginning so our next stop is in mainland china

Who's the director?
Hagit's picture in the HK skyline looks like it's taken from a Vim Venders movie (have you seen "Until the End of the World"?). As a purist I should remind you that eating McDonald's in the third world is blasphemy. The only possible excuse is free surfing, if they give it there ;-)
