**I want to start off by telling you that I am in a video on youtube about why I chose to intern in Hong Kong. Check it out-->
So here a recap of my tour of Hong Kong:
Saturday, the program had organized a bus tour of Hong Kong that took us to 2 locations. Unfortunately, we woke up for the tour and saw that it was pouring. Even though the rain was forecasted to last all day, we decided to go on the tour anyways. On the bus, we had a great tour guide who was very knowledge about Hong Kong's history and culture. One of the best parts was listening to all the interesting things I had not previously known about Hong Kong. I wish I could remember everything she said because it was all very intriguing.
The first stop we made was at Victoria Peak. This is an area that at one time was designated for rich British people or government officials only. When Britian owned Hong Kong, no Chinese were allowed to live on Victoria Peak. Now, anyone wealthy enough to afford real estate on this peak is allowed to live there. We
took a tram up to the top of the peak which was a lot of fun because it goes up at a 45 degree angle. Once we got to the top, we exited the tram into a large shopping mall about 6 stories tall. At the very top of the mall is a viewing deck that looks over much of Hong Kong Island. Unlucky for us, the bad weather and heavy cloud cover prohibited us from seeing anything at all. We all plan on making a trip back to Victoria Peak on a clear day.
The next stop we made was at Shek O Beach. This is a beautiful, clean, peaceful beach on Hong Kong Island. The town around it is small but has many great restaurants. When we arrived at Shek O the rain had gotten even heavier so we didn't make it into the ocean but instead decided to have lunch at a little family owned Thai restaurant. My friends Sarah, Alexa, and I decided to get 3 meals and split them. We started with chicken lettuce wraps and then got yellow pork curry (which was the best I've EVER had) and salmon with mango and lemon.
This is definitly one of the best meals I have ever had. Along with my meal I got a coconut and drank the water from it. I also scraped the inside of the coconut and ate it. It was a lot of fun but I wasn't a huge fan of the coconut water.
After lunch, we walked down to the beach and took pictures. On the way back we stopped on the side of the road and took pictures of a Chinese palace. By the end of the day, I was exhausted, wet, and cold. So we all came back and took naps!!
