I've never been one to sit still for extravagant amounts of time and all the flying we did today sure put me to the test. We left at about noon for Newark which was a simple one hour flight. Our layover was also pretty quick before boarding for our 16 hour flight to Hong Kong, the first destination of our Asian trip. Now the good thing, or only good thing about these long international flights was that each passenger gets his/her very own touch tone TV screen which is loaded with hundreds of movies, TV shows, video games, music, flight map etc. Gotta thank technology for making these endless hours bearable. Also Billy and I weren't seated together for some stupid reason, nor did we get isle seats like we requested but I guess that's how life goes.
My journey went something like this: All excited to be on the plane for the first hour, eat, watch movie, get up to stretch, watch tv, eat, get up to stretch, talk to guy sitting next to me, stretch, watch movie, eat, piss and then stand in the washroom for ten minutes cuz I don't feel like going back to my seat,
watch movie, play videogames while listening to music, try to sleep which epic fails, eat, piss, stretch, inadvertently wake up girl next to me, watch movie, stretch, wake up girl sitting next to Billy, stretch, wake up girl next to me again, eat, stretch, watch movie, try doing pullups in the back and am ordered to sit down, watch tv, wander into first class and get ordered to sit down, eat...yeah that pretty sums it up. Decent flight overall.
We reached Hong Kong late in the evening so we missed out on some scenery when landing, but we'll make that up by touring all over tomorrow during the day. Upon disembarking we got to see Hong Kong International Airport, it was massive. After getting our bags we made our way out and took the train to Kowloon. The train station led into a giant shopping mall which took us an hour to navigate and find the right way out of. We then walked all the way to the YMCA on Salisbury road. It seemed like I made an error in dates when I booked cuz the reception told me I was supposed to check in the previous night. Oh well, I guess I messed up the time change and didn't compensate for flight time, and basically I suck at math.
Once we checked in we quickly went back out and walked around the harbour area for a while before heading back in. The biggest thing that struck me as of yet is how amazingly clean everything is. I already have a blister on my small toe, serves me right for not breaking in my new shoes beforehand. Billy is now quietly passed out while I type. It's almost 4:15am. Better get some rest, I'm gonna need it for tomorrow.
P.S. No pics to upload since today's scenery consisted of a plane, and once in Hong Kong it was already too dark. Maybe next time.
