This is the view from the roof-top pool and it helped us get our bearings! On the left is the harbour bay of Hong Kong Island where the nightlife is and the land over the water on the right is Kowloon on mainland Hong Kong.
We arrived in Hong Kong okay, the flight was long but we were upgraded to business class so it didn't feel too bad! When we got to the airport we took the Airport Express to Hong Kong Island. This was really efficient and fast and gave us our first look at Hong Kong (out of the windows!) Arriving on Hong Kong Island, we got a taxi which took us to our hotel, it seems to be the quickest and cheapest way to get around! The buses are confusing and we don't know where they go!
Our first night in Hong Kong didn't turn out to be amazing as we had planned! The winding taxi ride had changed our bearings of where we thought we were! Instead of walking into the centre where we thought we'd find some food, then bars and then a taxi home, we walked into the wrong end of town. It wasn't dangerous but there wasn't anything to do and there were only really packed Chinese equivalents of 'greasy cafes!' with people watching the Argentina - Serbia game. So after ages of walking around and getting frustrated we bought food in a supermarket and took it back to

our hotel, instead of squeezing into the tiniest space in the cafes, which looked quite intimidating! At leas the food we bought was Chinese!

The view from our hotel is amazing especially from the roof-top pool and having looked at that this morning we could get our bearing sorted and so we walked into town, this time the right way, and the change was great! There are loads of shops and nice views. We got the tram to Victoria Peak, which was incredibly steep but with great views at the top. Here we had lunch at a restuarant called 'Hang Fa Lau' and we mastered our chopstick skills!

After visiting Victoria Peak we went across the Harbour on the 'Star Ferry' and went to Kowloon on the mainland Hong Kong. There are so many people here and with the heat it is incredibly tiring to walk around the hundreds of shops. We visited the market here called the 'ladies market' and tried a bit of bargaining! We're still here and about the get the ferry back to Hong Kong Island, which we are quite looking forward to getting out of the heat and having a swim back at

the hotel!

It's so different here especially the culture and traditions of the Chinese, we stand out being very blond in one case and lanky in another! Everything here is so built up and the buildings are huge!
