Well its coming to an end - all too soon.
Firstly now I have a little more time back to the Treetop adventure park. It was quite different, I loved the zip lining and if I did it again would try and really get some speed up when you take off. There was so many different elements. Going sideways on upright rope mesh was surprisingly difficult. There were varying different ladders - not too bad but occasionally you get a long gap which for people like me with short legs was hard....
The scariest of all was where you launch of a high platform on a kind of swing - then you have to catch a rope and haul yourself up to an even higher platform. I would never have made it without the help of the local guide hauling me as well....
There were a variety of things you walked along - thin wire being the most stable but disconserting. Others were like horizontal ladders, swinging traingle bits and the worst a wire with many small round logs that turned round and pitched me off at one point - not completely though I still had hold with my arms
and managed to get back on.
Iain said he wanted to fall - but in the end did not.
On to Bangkok - straight to Koh Sahn Road. We all ended up in different hotels as landing on the street late in the day leaves less choice - funny thing was about the only thing still the same as in 1992 was the place we stayed last time. It was still there and identical in everyway. The street itself is now closed to traffic most of the time and is certainly busy. A good spot for people watching, interesting but loud and very very crowded.
Hong Kong - we landed at 8pm but by the time we got out of the airport it was 10pm and very cold. You could tell the westerners who had not been here before we all had shorts on - the locals have fur coats.....
Heating in hotel would not go over 20 and we froze all night, have now moved to a room where it does work so that is much better although not looking forward to Monday night as power is going off for 5 hours....
Temp is 9
- 14
Spent first day walking around Central, Wang Chai, Causeway - interesting but not outstanding. Botanical Gardens OK with some lovely birds in the central aviary. Odd thing is that the aviary is built with very thick wire making it hard to see the birds..........
Hong Kong Park has a lovely walk through aviary, we spent ages and are going back tomorrow with the camera.
Tried a chinese for lunch - hope that was a bad one and there are better. Bought a sweatshirt as can not manage with thin top, now wearing 3 layers and still not what you would call warm.
Somethings here very cheap but others same price as home - definitely would need to know the place if planning to shop.
Shoes are cheap and tools are cheap - so are electrical (especailly fakes). Unfortunately the second day was mostly shopping as weather left a lot to be desired. Cold, wet and windy. Off to Kowloon on the ferry - much more crowded and busy than HK Island but interesting. Check out the new form of torture in the local hairdressers.
Underground back again and decided to go up
peak regardless of the weather. Tram ride very interesting, steep and scenic. A little too cold at the top though - there is a walk but it was really freezing so we piked out.
Hong Kong is definitely not the place to go for food - everything we have eaten is expensive and horrid - we have asked around and general consensus is crap food.
Off to Sunny Melbourne for the day tomorrow, then home. Have fun all - we did.
