Andy and his girls were meeting us at the Star Ferry terminal. On their way there, Andy was approached by a friendly girl who asked us to participate in a survey. They were asked a variety of harmless questions ranging from the duration of their stay in Hong Kong to how much they paid for their hotel. The survey ended with the man giving them each a scratchcard as a reward for taking part. Hayley scratched her card to reveal she had won a free T-Shirt and then Andy scratched his card, Amazingly Andy had won the big prize The lady was delighted and vigorously shook his hand, then called over another colleague who was also very delighted to see the big win. Andy was guaranteed one of the 5 prizes listed at the top of the card, a Laptop, Video Camera, Dream Holiday, a Cruise or US$1000 cash! All Andy had to do was attend a
90 minute holiday presentation. The company would pay for a taxi to take them and they would receive a free breakfast. It was all arranged for tomorrow morning.
After we got back to the hotel room, Andy did a search on the internet and found many stories IDENTICAL to his. So what was it about? Club Absolute. Time share. A scam pretty much. Andy rang the lady and cancelled the trip.
We caught the ferry then a bus to Ocean Park. We got in the gates, caught the Ocean Express to the other side of the park and then Andy took off with us all running behind him. Having been there before, he knew where he wanted to go. He raced up and jumped on a ride. We all followed suit. Mel had been thinking that maybe she and I should go off by ourselves today but I said "lets just go on this ride and then we'll talk about it." When we were buckled in, I finally had a look at the ride and said "Oh boy" (or words to that effect). Mel and I don't do 'upside down' rides and this one was like a corkscrew. Mel was too frightened to even yap as she normally does on scary rides. She came off quite green. I was better than she but probably not by much!!!! We sat down while they all raced back again.
We went over to the Abyss Turbo
Drop ride and guess what...... the people from Bunyip we met in the market the other night were on it! We did go on this, but I would have to say it wasn't nearly as good as the one in Genting Highlands in Malaysia.
We went on the second longest outdoor escalator in the world stretching over 225 metres. It got a bit boring so Mel had a seat on the way up!!
We had a go on the Raging River – Mel and I bought plastic poncho rain coats that helped keep us a bit dryer!
When the rain became too heavy, we went into the Atoll Reef - a four storey high aquarium.
The Ocean Park Tower – one of the tallest observation towers in Southeast Asia has a rotating observation deck at the top offering 360° views of the South China Sea.
We walked through the Aviary and passed the flamingo pond with the amazingly pink birds.
It was too windy so the cable car was not operating all day so we caught the Ocean Express Train back again
A great but tiring day had by all!!
