Went to Wenshu Yuan temple, famous for its vegetarian food. All meat dishes made from tofu but looked just like the real thing. Weird!

Walked around souvenirs shopping area then back to hotel. I finished my book, Jerry went out to try and find a China FC football shirt and failed!

Packed the bags ready for the train journey to Tibet.

8.45pm boarded train for a 42 hour ride!! 6 bunks to a compartment, food trolleys going up and down the aisles for lunch and dinner. No stops on the way where you could get out other than for a few minutes at a time. The train climbed to its highest point (5,072M! The world,s highest railway) by the second day. Then came down to the 3,500M height of Lasa.

We had been taking altitude sickness pills to ward off any ill effects but Lu and I suffered horribly. My head kept spinning with a cracking headache and I threw up twice the second morning! Felt like an enormous hangover with no booze to blame!
