Lei Feng National holiday
Here we are with owner & employees of 'Greenants Outdoor' store celebrating Lei Feng Day!Lei Feng photo behind the group.......Lei Feng was born in '40 to a peasant's family, his father died of starvation & his mother died shortly thereafter leaving him a begger at 6. The local government took good care of him & sent him to school;he became a member of local community. At 16 he joined the army, never complained & did whatever was asked of him. He felt as tho the people & gov't gave him a second chance at life;'I will put my limited life into the unlimited service to the people', he said. His motto was, 'To live is to make others happy'...he was killed at age 21. His spirit & willingness to give & help others lives on and is celebrated every March 5.
Global Volunteers was contacted and asked if their two volunteers would partake & help celebrate this national holiday. Monday morning, 3/5, we were invited to a large sporting goods store to meet with the owner & employees. We were asked to teach the English word for the equipment they were selling. It was a large, first class sports store, with national brands, North Face, Patagonia;sleeping bags & tents for K2;top of the line climbing gear, etc. TV &

Here I am with employees of \'Greenants Outdoor\' store celebrating Lei Feng Day! newspaper media were there interviewing us; we later went outside & helped clean phone booths & light poles! In the afternoon, we were called to the Shaanxi Vocational & Technical College to partake in an exercise. The students would be sweeping the campus & we were asked to pose with the brooms! We took up the brooms & swept enough to please the the TV media along with newspaper media. That night, our interview appeared on two channels, CCTV 2 & 3. Following day, articles appeared in 3 local paper including the 'China Daily'........it was a very fulfilling committment & we were honored to participate..........
