We didn't go but it's possible
The SuperCenter is Everywhere! I wonder if they sell stuff made in the US?? Our last day in Nanjing together was spent shopping! I didn’t really buy anything, but it was an experience nonetheless. I was even able to bargain with people, which is fun and not fun. Fun because it’s always fun to see if people with lower their price, not fun because you realize that for many people this is their livelihood—all their money goes to living not to a big corporation (to pay some CEO!). The highlight was going to Pizza Hut—I had my first roasted octopus, which actually wasn’t too bad— I’d do it again. When ate with Dr. Hua and his family, which was a special treat for us, and then his daughter took us shopping some more. Actually, we were pretty Western that day; we went to Starbucks too! There was quite a bit of Christmas decorations and Holiday themes out shopping, so I asked Dr. Hua’s daughter, Hua Xia (her name), if people celebrated Christmas a lot here because I heard they didn’t. She said very factually: “Oh yes, lots. Especially the malls.” Ah, yes, the US too! China and the US are very much alike! We love shopping, and we love sales! And, we both have WalMarts—check
Wahoo!
The Veggie pizza was terrific. They use a little less tomato sauce, cheese was a bit different, and lots of veggies--delicious! out the pix!
After shopping we headed to the Confucius Temple, which I was imagining to be a sacred, peaceful, quiet area…again, I was wrong. It was like the Vegas of Nanjing. Bright lights everywhere, shopping centers, vendors, people trying to make a buck, not really sacred, but fun nonetheless. The Confucius Temple dinner was our farewell dinner to our JIE friends and other the other University folks (I won’t mention their name, but I will say that Nebraska pulled out a helluva win (wahoo!) over another University in their system). The dinner ended up being more kerosene to drink and more Nanjing food to eat! And after dinner we decided the 4th floor (Goodman’s Bar and Grill) was where we needed to be to finish the night! Good Times!
