School Assembly
This is while all the students were arriving in the main corridor Today was a great day to feel a part of our school.
We taught class at 11 then had our lunch break. I had to teach the first class after lunch at 2pm then the rest of the afternoon was National Day performances(school assembly). It was quite the sight to see all 3,000 student and all the teachers meet in the main corridor of the school. Thank God there is a cover over it cause it has been raining here for the last 2 days as the outer bands of the Tropical Storm that hit the Philippines is passing by us. No winds this time just rain.
The Senior 1 teachers placed 2nd overall in the performances and were quite excited. GO SENIOR 1!!!
After the school performances Pete continued to ask when we have our Spring Festival(Chinese New Year) break, cause we have been asking for a few weeks and haven't gotten an answer yet. We found out today we get off January 23-February 21, but also the week before break the students have exams all week so we don't have to teach. YEAH!!! We finally have an idea of when we will be off and can
start to plan our travels around Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand. But as they say in China "not for sure, but" so don't quote them but this is probably it.
After school we went to dinner with all the English Senior 1 teachers to our favorite Sichuan restaurant. We got to pick the place and also what kind of beer we wanted served. We felt quite honored since this was our "Good Travels Banquet" before Pete and I leave for South Korea. Many of the teachers at our school are not traveling cause this is one of the most popular times to travel in China, most populace country in the world, so lots of crowds, plus they are very concerned about H1N1 and let it hinder their lives. The food was great and even better was the bonding and educating going on at the table about English and Chinese. We were told also they will have another banquet for us when we return.
Then after dinner we were treated to a 90 minute foot massage. Pete has NEVER had any kind of massage before and was hesitant at first. Pete was in a room with the only
60th Anniversary of PRC
People's Republic of China male teacher that joined in on the massage, another room with 3 younger English teachers, and I was in a room with Catherine, Head of the English Dept at our school. They start out by soaking your feet in hot water, massage your back, arms, neck, face and head. Then they move to your legs and feet. I was expecting it to be like on Amazing Race in Beijing when they had to get a foot massage and were screaming. It was painful at points but not to bad. This whole night was paid by the school AWESOME!!!!
Well our bags are partly packed and off to vacation we go tomorrow.
