View from our room
Just a quick snapshot looking out our window. Hard to tell much about the city from this but we're here. The flight here went fine. Rose handled her first time flying without any problems. Well, other then when we landed she needed to go really badly. We were setting over the wings so you can guess how quickly we didn't get off the plane. To make it even worse we had to get on a bus and ride from where the plane stopped to get into the terminal. She made it fine but was a very uncomfortable girl.
One thing about the Chinese airlines, they don't let you go hungry. Our flight was less then 2 hours and they still gave us lunch. Wasn't a lot but it was a lot better then the small can of Pringels we had to buy on the 6 hour flight to San Francisco.
Guangzhou looks to be a lot more modern city then Nanchang, but that's kind of what we expected. This hotel is very fancy. Way more upscale then any place we would be staying in back home. Our room isn't quite a large as the one we had in Nanchang it's fine however it would be nice to have the extra space when Sha Sha gets here tomorrow afternoon. One

If I understood correctly one of the optional tours this week is to go up this thing to the observation platform. I'm not sure what the girls think about that. This was also looking from our room. thing I don't get about this room. There's a window between the bathroom and the rest of the room. I'm talking almost floor to ceiling window. Needless to say we found the shade for that thing really quickly.
Last night we met up with the rest of the couples from the other groups, I think this trip there's about 3 or 4 different groups since we went to several provinces. The days of a single group having 8 -9 couples all getting children from the same orphanage are gone. That's good for the kids since it means 2 things. Less kids getting abandoned and more getting adopted by family’s here. Still, it was a huge group of people to make supper reservations for. We all headed down the street to a local restaurant. The food was really good, more then we could eat, have no idea what most of it was but nothing was really spicy and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Jasmine really like the egg custard cakes/pies. Rose like everything especially the fried noodles that came right at the end. I was worried she was going to eat so much she was going to get sick last
Just the girls
The have a really nice garden in the courtyard. night but she's still sleeping away right now. I think part of her eating so much is because she's never had this much food put in front of her at once. I don't think she didn't get to eat well, judging by her looks, but just wasn't served this much food. Hopefully she's figure out it's going to be there and she doesn't need to pile it on just in case it's her last meal.
Today is a rest day or we could have taken a short tour. The rest of 1801 opted out and we're going to be here longer then they will so this tour comes up again for us so we decided to skip todays tour. There's a large park just across the street that we might venture over to later today. The funny thing is it literally right across the street but for us to get there we have to get on the subway, ride from D1 to B1 since there is no way to get across the 6 lanes of traffic safely. Weird to be that close to something but you can't get there from here.
We also will be meeting with our
CCAI rep that will be working with us this week. Sadly this is where we leave group 1801 and become 1801S (a group of one) since the rest of our group will be working on their US Consulate appointment and their child’s visa. We will still have a big group of couples since there's another group(s) coming in Monday evening to start their Guangzhou part of their trip. So looking forward to meeting the new couples, sad to leave the ones we've spent last week with.
Oh one more thing, there's a McDonalds right next door and the best part, the ice is OK for us to have! You have to be here to appreciate how quickly you're going to miss having ice :-) There's also a Starbucks and 7-11 just down the street. Welcome to Western moving into Eastern. Not sure I'll get a chance to go to Starbucks, the place looks to be really busy, wasn't a empty seat in the place both times we went by there yesterday. Who knew coffee was so popular? Ok so Starbucks knew.
