Hej alla underbara!
Hope you’re well! Can’t believe December is already coming up… We're now practicing Christmas songs with the kids, for the coming Christmas performance 😊 And I’ve now been in Guangzhou for four and a half months (!!!) And still really like it!
Some things are and will be changing though. Next week I’ll be moving into my new apartment, not far from where I live now. It’s on the 15th floor - overlooking a big road, neon signs and big buildings (iiihh… me like!). It’s smaller than my current place, but cheaper. It has no bathroom door, but a curtain instead - but when it comes to bathrooms you can't be too picky in China. 😉 I also needed some additional furniture... and thanked God for IKEA. So, my plan to get Chinese furniture has failed once again... And there goes my babble about integrating with the culture and the people in all aspects 😉
Have also decided to stop teaching and work for EF. Will stay till mid January though, cause I don’t wanna leave the small kids as they are now attached to me. It’s been a great experience teaching and I've enjoyed
Cajsa & Dad
Visiting the French blocks in a rainy Shanghai. it a lot - especially the mix of kids and adults and the good amosphere and great people at work. 😊 But I knew all along that teaching ain't what I wanna do for my career. So, it feels good to have made the decision to leave.
Will continue my internship at Ogilvy (the PR-firm) which I'm enjoying a lot and learning from. The investment seminar for Belgium that I've been helping out on was held the other week at a nice hotel in town. It went really well; with pleased guests, media and organizors. The aim of the lunch seminar was to promote Belgium as the logistic centre and gateway to Europe, for Chinese companies that wants to export their products.
After seeing my dad for ten days and discussing his company here in China, I've decided to start helping him with it. And, another essential thing I'll be able to do as I stop teaching is to learn Chinese!!! I really wanna learn the language and lately I just haven’t had time to study it at all. So, will enroll in a course at the University in February 😊
It was really nice to have
my dad around for more than a week. I was working quite a lot but also had time to see him, and visited one factory with him and Maggie. We also went to Shanghai for three days, to see Cajsa and her boyfriend Henrik. It was raining throughout but we had a great and relaxing time together. Shanghai is more developed, western influenced and sophisticated than Guangzhou - not too different from Hong Kong. It was cool to see the city, but I still prefer the more Chinese atmosphere in GZ 😊
Last weekend I had my colleagues from Ogilvy over on Saturday, and Maggie and her family on Sunday. My dad patiently joined both my attempts to cook Swedish food, and, not just he actually seemed to like it! I cooked potato salad, meet balls, cream pasta, gubbröra (pickled fish and egg), and other Swedish taditional food. Still haven't got myself an oven, but will hopefully soon! Can't wait to make quiches, lasagnas, pizza, scones, and cinamon buns!
On Monday Lina and Thomas are arriving! I’ve taken some days off from work so that we can spend time together, exploring Guangzhou. I actually haven’t been touring around
Dinner with my adult students
Having delicious food at a Cantonese restaurant in GZ. the city a lot so far, so am really looking forward to it! We'll be having alot of good food too - there's so much of that here!
Regarding Christmas... nope, unfortunately I won’t be coming home. Christmas isn’t a big holiday here, so we only get two days off from work (which apparently is more than last year) so would be kinda rush for me to go home. 😉 Plus, Annika and Johan are arriving on the 28th so I think I'll survive! Also, quite a few people I know here are staying so we’ll be celebrating together. 😊 For most Chinese Christmas is going out for dinner, singing Karaoke and getting drunk with friends! Not too different from our Swedish Christmas Day!
Tell me what's happening at home!
I miss you a lot!!!
Love and kisses,
Em

December
Kramar Nan
