We arrived here a week today in the pouring rain, but ever since the weather has been great blue skies all round.
We went to the Temple of Heaven which was used as a place for the emporers to pray for good harvests. There were loads of older chinese people playing games, singing and generally having a good time, very entertaining. But the Japanese are so funny, there are loads of them, all wearing a team hat so they dont loose eachother on the daily tours.
Now why do the Chinese have to spit on the floor, its made me gag several times just walking down the street. The Loos are interesting, touch wood they havent been as unclean as i thought they would be. I would say 90% of the resturants dont have loos, you have to use the ones in the streets and most them them are squatters/long drops, so its good for the tighs. Stu went to the loo the other night and it was a large room with about 6 holes inthe floor with one bloke having a good old read and a smoke whilst doing his business - NICE!!, I went to the ladies
and there were no doors so i went in, when a lady stood infront of me watching and waiting for the loo, sudden stage fright! ha ha
We have also been to CCTV tower, tallest buiding at present in Beijing, this is where they broadcast the TV in English, Baihai Park which was lovely, several other parks which were also amazing and very clean, Military Museum, Forbidden City, Tian An Men Square, Beijing Arcrobats, Olympic Park the Birds Nest which was very impressive, not quite finished yet though.
We met our new tour leader and group, they seem really nice, more girls on this one, at last, no football talk, plus they have a hairdryer, even better! 2 of the lads from the other tour are on the same one aswell.
Our first couple of nights we had poor food, so our impression of the Chinese food wasnt good, but from them onwards the food has been great and its sooooo cheap here. Had Duck a couple of times, not as good as the Aldi Frozen Duck ha ha, we have been for a lovely curry and fish and chips. To catch the Metro it costs around
Temple of Heaven
Over 60's get in free and sing, dance, play cards and kick around a hacky sack with their tight clothing - sexy! 14pence, the bus is 9pence, its madness! But good for the old budget.
Its our last day in Beijing today, we head for the Great Wall tomorrow morning for a 4-6hr hike. we are hoping the weather will stay nice and sunny for some good views.
We promise some photos soon, but we (I blame Stu) forgot the vital part of the camera to do this, so when we get to our friends in Baihai near HK we will get these downloaded!
Miss you all
Love L & S xxxxxxx
