I took a quick hop to Beijing, China during Thanksgiving weekend with a couple of good friends. Looking back I realized that 4 days in Beijing was not enough to actually see the whole city but we walked (and there was a lot of walking involved) way with a great appreciation for the Chinese culture of balancing economic growth and old world tradition. Being part Chinese, going to the mother land for the first time was an amazing experience that I will never forget. Another thing I won't forget is how cold it was there in November. That wind just cuts right through what ever you got on. The only time we took off our jackets was after making it up to one of the Great Wall towers. By then we were sweating like pigs.
Besides talking in the Chinese culture, my other motive to visit China was to try the world famous Peking duck. Man, the slices of Peking duck (crispy skin and meat) on a potato pancake served with Beijing onions and a dash of Ho sin sauce was heavenly. Trust me, it was worth the 8+ miles that we accumulated on foot in the Forbidden City, Tienanmen
Square, Great Wall of China, Summer Palace, and the Temple of Heaven. Also did I mentioned it was very cold?
Any way here are a bunch of pictures from BJ, hope they will interest you in wanting to visit the city one of these days. The summer Olympic games will be there in 2008 so make sure you reserve your tickets and hotel if you are planning to attend. Cheers.
